  • Kelly got this one right. Both Floyd and Smith are well deserving. Hope that translates into emotional, outstanding performances by both, which will infect the whole team.

  • Lost in the article might be Kelly's comments about building and growing relationships. I really feel that all that is in the past, but hearing that the head coach is still working on it is a positive in my opinion.

    And yes congrats to Floyd as this is well deserved.

  • While I'm thrilled for Michael Floyd, I'm also confused. Did Floyd's probation just get lifted? Coach Kelly had stated categorically that Floyd would not be named a Game Day Captain for the Bowl game and explained that anyone on probation will not be named a Game Day Captain.

    Even if he reversed himself, this is a great gesture and very well deserved. Floyd has been sensational!

  • Floyd has been my favorite player on our roster since his first game or two during his freshmen year, what a dynamic, big, explosive receiver. I know comparisons are overrated, but I see the next T.O. (talent + physicality + style of play - hopefully minus the drama, but who knows!) and wherever he goes in the NFL will probably be my new 3rd favorite team! (behind my Niners and Colts).

    I don't think we will be able to replace him for a while....hopefully one of these incoming freshmen can step it up - doubt they will be the next #3, though.

    I may be wrong, as I have been disconnected from ND news this week, but I thought Kelly's comments from before regarding the probation status were in reference to the end of the regular season. Since Floyd hadn't yet graduated, he was still on probation. Now that he has fulfilled all requirements as a student and received his degree, maybe that's an automatic probation lift? Just my guess. Either way, I'm with you on the fact this was a great move by Kelly, and Floyd is very deserving for all the work he has put into this year.

  • Kelly has always been clear on this. Floyd lost his privilege as team captain, but game day captain was always available to him.
