Golson In Position To Win QB Derby

Irish quarterback Everett Golson is in a good position after teammate Tommy Rees' poor decisions earlier this week.

  • This kid just needs to get stuck into the playbook and work his tail off over the summer. He can do some great things I think.

  • EG: everyday... I mean everyday take that playbook and study every formation, every situation, every contingency. Come august when you take the practice field run that team like general patton. The team will fall in line and run through a brick wall to make you a success. Sincerely, a fan.

  • Playing football is a challenge every time you pass, run, kick, snap, block, tackle or perform any other skill involved in the game.

However, after dedicated training and commitment, God given talent, personal integrity and native instinct takes over. There is a fine line in evaluating performance, measuring improvement and understanding the most critical quality -execution under pressure.

The quarterback position is often the most difficult to determine. Let's hope one becomes the clear starter and continues to improve.

  • To me the ideal situation if Rees gets suspended is to develop a package for both Hendrix and golson and plan to play both like coach Kelly did at Cincinnati with pike and collarras.this plan worked very well at uc.

  • I still think Golson has more than Hendrix. Focus on Golson if Rees gets suspended. Yea of course give Hendrix a good amount of reps but I love Golson's natural ability to move. Hendrix just seems to be blinkered.

  • Navy became a close game with the arrest of Rees.....Rees is gone at least for that game....go ahead, you're gonna have to start Hendrix or Golson.....they will turn the ball over more than we could have ever imagined with Rees. I think Rees gets kicked off the team, and if he doesn't the hyprocesy of Notre Dame comes to the forefront

  • You couldn't ask for 2 better games on our schedule for new QBs to get their confidence and the team's confidence then the first 2. Even if both guys screw up we should still win both. You want to have a #1 and a #2 by game 3, at Michigan State.

  • The O Line has to protect this young smaller QB but then again if they don't, he'll out run them all anyway

I could not disagree more. First, the QBs are very similar so having two packages probably does little to force the defense into different personnel packages or formations. Second, this team needs a LEADER on offense, that intangible is likely one of the reasons Rees was in the mix. If we had someone like Floyd who would be the defacto leader, you could platoon your QBs - not here. Third, a decision needs to be made on the QB, it is increasingly clear that BK's delays, while merited based on the lack of a frontrunner, have not resulted in positive results. BTW, we don't need to throw the ball 30 times a game, why can't BK play to our strengths (big oline and a stable of RBs)

  • One of these QB's needs to step up and take charge now.
