Good Omen or Bad Omen?

  • So I was looking at the calendar last night to see when the National Championship game is to be played. I was a little worried of the date so I had to look for confirmation. Unfortunately it is on my anniversary. Of all days it has to be that day. I only say this because my wife despises sports and when I told her last night she burned that hole through me that only married men know. At first I was excited thinking, "this is awesome, what better day for ND to win a national championship than the day I married my wife." I even told her she should come with me to watch the game...that didn't go over real well. I am thinking that this is a good thing all the way. What do you think?

    Second part of this is....if she is that pissed off....do I watch the game and enjoy the first National Championship in 24 years, or do I have my dad record it and watch it later? This is a tough one, but my reasoning is this comes around not so often and my anniversary comes around every year. Before you answer, it isn't a big Anniversary, meaning 5,10,15 and so on. It also is on a Monday so we could celebrate over the weekend. I know I sound like that total jack**s husband right now...but I have been wating for this since 1993.

  • The game isn't on until 8pm. Here's how your day should go:

    7:00 - 7:30am: Make breakfast.
    7:30 - 8:00am: Deliver said breakfast to wife in bed.
    8:00 - 8:30am: Clean up mess you made in kitchen. Turn TV to her desired channel before you leave the room.
    8:30 - 9:30am: Run her a bath. Say things like, "You are so beautiful," "I am so lucky," and, "How 'bout those Irish in the title game, eh?"
    9:30 - 10:30am: Massage. For her, Oly.
    10:30 - 11:00am: Talk about where she would like to go for lunch.
    11:30 - 12:30pm: Lunch at wife's favorite place. Topics during lunch should include buying her a pair of shoes, how she has gotten more beautiful since the day you met, how lost you'd be without her, and, "How 'bout the Irish in the title game, eh?"
    12:30 - 4:00pm: Agonizing time spent watching her look at hundreds of pairs of shows because you stupidly promised her a pair.
    4:00 - 4:30pm: Say subtle things on the drive home, like, "I know you think today is all about the Notre Dame game tonight. It's not. It's about you. I love you. Everything about you. You always put up with my crazy obsession with Notre Dame."
    5:00 - 5:06pm: Apologize for spending the entire car ride home talking about Notre Dame.
    5:06 - 5:30pm: Have her sit on the couch and cover her in a blanket. Turn the TV to whatever she wants. Explain to her that you are there for whatever she needs. Discuss what her wants for dinner are.
    5:30 - 6:30pm: Romantic dinner. Flowers. Make comments even more subtle by saying things like, "Oh, look, my steak is shaped like a crystal football." It won't be, but she'll look - and she'll notice that you have made a "ND" out of your mashed potatoes.
    6:30 - 7:00pm: Drop the act and beg.
    8:00 - Whenever: Enjoy the game.

  • If this doesnt win POTW, I'm leaving.... and Im not even married.

    Only thing I would add is during the 6:30-8:00 begging portion, around 7:55 and assuming you are failing and its either divorce OR married yet agitated, run out to the patio with her, point up to a specific bright place in the dark sky, and name a star after her. She might just gaze at it long enough to at least make it through pre-game and the first drive.

    And if that doesnt work, tie her down and gag her. Desperate situations sometimes require desperate measures.

    First things first though guys, we have to GET to the title game. Lets hope this very post isnt a bad omen in and of itself.

  • Gotta say brother, if your wife isn't going to "let" you watch the game, that sucks. I am sure she knows how big of an Irish fan you are by now. Just make sure to get a little day nookie in, probably around 7 ish, somewhere not the bedroom and I promise there will be no argument. Good luck Sir!

  • You can not miss this. Do you think she will divorce you if you do decide to watch? F@*k it, as one Irish fan to the next you better watch the game if ND makes it. I am also married and have been for just 10 years, and if my wife couldnt understand that this is not just another game, but something that us fans have waited and waited for years, standing there listening to people talk so much S*!t. STAND YOUR GROUND my friend and if she truly loves you then she would understand and if not my wife has a hot sister!! GO IRISH

    I have a similar problem. If we make it to the NC, my first child is due a week later. I live in Philly and for me to go to Miami for the game and possibly miss my first child's birth would no doubt end my marriage. I would be forced into a life of alimony, child support and divorce attorneys.

    On the other hand, I haven't seen us win a championship since I was 11. Tough call.

  • Is it going to take you 24 years to find another wife? I doubt it.

    While ND is likely to win multiple championships with Kelly, you cannot take this year for granted. As someone who has been married for 23 years, my wife has taken me for granted for many years I have survived.

  • I told my wife Saturday night that if we had plans for this coming Saturday night, I am out. I will be watching the game since I was only able to watch parts of BC and WF. Now you are talking BCSCG? My wife will be notified as soon as we beat SC. She knows the love for ND is virtually the same as the power of the force for a jedi.

  • I am not a total pessimist, but one aspect of the post game interview with Brian Kelly that keep rewinding in my head:

  • This is why I want to marry a women who loves ND just as much as I do! Think about it *raises hand in the air while staring off talking* imagine celebrating your anniversary with a irish fan wife throwing back beers, eating wings, and watch her blurt out unlady like words aimed torwards the refs for making a terrible call. Meanwhile she is looking hot in her tight pink ND jersey with ND logos on her face with her hair in braided pig tails. I would just smile and be reminded of why I love this women. If ND wins celebration nookie after. If ND loses, frustration loss nookie after. Oh by the way she owns ND gear for everything. Yes even her nighties. I digress. Back to the bar. Ahh, a ND mans dream! A anniversary spent watching football and enjoying every bit of it with your lovable awesome legen......wait for it.......DARY! wife. *comes back from the day dream while performing a We Are ND! while pumping the fist in the air*

  • My Honey said, give her an anniversary week. A gift a day, and they gradually get better as the week progresses. Then on your anniversary, she says take her to a well timed dinner, then have her bestie pick her up for a prearranged spa treatment. Make sure the bestie is a team player, and keeps her out until after the game. Advice from a lady. Mine says, we'd for sure be watching the game.
