Gotta get this off my chest.

  • I'm very very disturbed by the amount of ND fan's flooding these young men social network site's. Wether it was Tee Shepard Aaron Lynch or now Louis Nix With all the negative & venomous comment's spewed at them. I mean C'mon!! That stuff just isnt right imo. These are 18 or 19 year old kid's. If you follow them on social media site's fine. But to interact with them in such a manner is downright creepy & maybe said people need to take a long look in the mirror or seek professional help. I wish said "fan's" would just go away. If you want to debate what's wrong with ND football look no further than that toxic branch of the fan base. That is all.

  • Absolutely spot on Big John. Let's face it, we all pay way too much attention to this stuff, but at least we can keep it here and away from directly interacting with these kids on facebook and twitter. The Lynch thing is way over the top. How many kids do we all know that went away to school, missed home, girlfriend, etc. and transferred? I read where his mom was having to defend him against people positng on facebook ! Get a life people !

  • Yeah it is really creepy. Remind's me personally of Robert Deniero's character from the movie The Fan. People need to get a life a hobby, part time job or something. You have some serious issue's if you troll on kid's social media profile's. Just my opinion.

  • I agree that people shoulnd't do it, but kids can also put their twitters on private and restrict their access on facebook. If they're not doing either of those two things than they either don't care or they like the attention. When it comes back to bite them they have an issue with it. Exercising a little caution and foresight would go a long way.

    Spot on. Couldn't agree more. I joined this site in February after spending a couple months jumping back & forth from site to site to see which one I liked best. While I am very happy with my choice overall, I do have to say that as I got more involved my eyes have been open to just how "obsessed" some people are. Why a person would interact with college athletes or recruits thru social media just befuddles me.

    By the way Big John, classis avaitar....what time is the kegger at the Moontower?!?!?!

    I agree. But at the same time they are kid's & the people trolling are adult's & should know better.

    Understand, but we are talking about 16, 17, 18 year old kids. They usually only learn caution through making mistakes. I think we have 50 year old men trolling 17 year old kids social media. Creepy might be the best that can be said. Disturbing might be a better description.

  • People can do what they want, but in the end these are 18-22 year old kids. I know as a parent I would not want obsessed football junkies getting involved w/ my 18-22 year old thru social media. To ask what is going on with them is bad enough, but to hear that some fans actually are attacking these kids for their choices is just insane.

  • To be completely honest, when I finally figured out how to use Facebook I friend requested a bunch of players. When I figured out twitter I followed a bunch of players. I did so because I thought I could read some cool shit directly from the players (see Lou's thread about too much information). What I soon realized is that, first of all, I really don't like a lot of ND fans and most of the stuff the players post revolves around food and video games.

    I deleted all the players from my Facebook page and recently shutdown my twitter account.

    Very unfortunate but every fan base has those bottom feeders that make ND look bad. With that said I don't mind the criticism if its fan amongst fan but to message him on facebook or twitter in a negative manner is ridiculous. I personally only follow players on twitter and its nice to have that little connection to athletes but only when its positive. At some point these crude fans will eventually force the NCAA to ban twitter and facebook for the programs sake and will ruin the fun for fans who choose to use social networking in the appropriate way but perfectly put john.

  • Like John Bonham on Moby Dick, I've been banging this drum for a few months. I don't have a facebook or twiiter account, because, well, maybe I just don't want to have people from my past finding me. But that's just me. In the meantime, I get all of the news about Notre Dame football, the players, staff, recruits etc... right here. Occasionally, if I'm not near a computer, or maybe heard something on ESPN, (this happened a bit during recruiting season) I'd have my daughter check out jSapp's twitter account. I figured if there was anything happening, it'd be tweeted by Jason, and that's good enough for me. I have made my feelings about fans contacting players via twitter & facebook, etc... very well known. And I'm still convinced that somewhere down the road the NCAA is going to address that issue, pertaining to recruits. If, through a loose interpretation, fans may be construed as 'representatives of the university' then that opens up a whole new category of potential recruiting violations.
