Greenberry's Coach Explains Flip

  • Darragh said...

I wonder - four years from now, if you're an employer who's interviewing this kid, do you ask this kid about what happened on NSD, and whether or not he thinks that behavior is acceptable? I know I would ask.

I don't think operating the deep fryer requests such an extensive interview.....roflmao

  • Its Like this he insisted he was going to Notre Dame over and over he even made that clear to his cousin Tee when he was likeing USC Greenbarry said no we are Notre Dame period. He is full of it he never wanted to go it was all a scame. wont be surprised if tee leaves too. He has everything to gain going to ND, he chooses Houston? No TV coverage bairly at all this makes no sence.

  • I initially did not want to comment on this. The more I thought about it though, it bothered me. If any recruit wants to flip, I'm ok with that. It's his life, and I will not think any less of him. It seems to me though that he may be throwing Tee under the bus for his own decision. I don't agree with blaming others for your own decisions. Own up to your decision, even if it is nothing more than "I just changed my mind".

  • Tee will not leave..... If anything what his cousin did will make him feel better about his decisions. The ND family will not disrespect you.

  • Hope it's OK with you guys to blast this kid. He passed us up for HOUSTON!! Never told us 'til it was too late. For God's sake. Quit praising the early committments. Another piece of rust for the Golden Dome. I said it before and I'll say it again. Letting Polian go (Kelly not retaining him) was a very bad idea.

Pretty sure this list shows more than 9 but who's counting. It might be 9 players currently in the NFL.

Can't open your link. I took all of 30 seconds to look that up, so it certainly could be off. Whatever the number, it's nowhere near 469. My original point still stands. Let's not miss the forest for the trees.

Seems to me this young man did us all a favor. Better to not have signed him at all than have him come to ND and be a "head case" who probably would have ended up leaving anyway. I may be wrong, but DG at the end of the day was not the RKG for Notre Dame.

My personal opinion (right or wrong) is that he wants to be a big fish in a small pond, U of H, Conference USA. I think the whole thing about being in Tee's shadow is BS. This was always going to be about DG. Houston???????

I think this young man wants to go pro in 2 years and he figures he can do that easier at UH than at ND. I agree with what another poster said...He firmly believes this UH assistant coach can get him to the NFL in 2 years while no one at ND can...Just speculating...Who really know's what is going thru this kid's mind?

You will excuse anything and everything by Brian Kelly. I bet you had a great response when they lost to USF to open the season. That game was too tough for ND and the QB was not experienced enough. There is always an excuse.

Actually, this is the first I have posted, smart-ass!!! There is no excuse to lose to USF. I am generally not happy with the way Kelly and staff has managed the QB situation at ND, But I am not going to second-guess EVERY decision he makes, especially when I don't have all the information he and his staff have. I am especially not going to hold him completely accountable for the decisions of immature and dishonorable 17 and 18 year-olds who are being bombarded mercilessly by grown men whose careers they hold in the palm of their young, impressionable hands!!!! This staff did a great job last year resurrecting some lost recruiting battles. This year they didn't do so well.

Let's celebrate and develop the ones we got, not the ones that got away. None of these kids have played a down of collge football and yet we are predicting failure as if they have...

Not even a 40 year decision, but a 3.5 year decision. Houston is a stepping stone school for coaches. The coach that recruited him could be gone a year from now.

Whether it's about 'connecting' with UH coach or playing in the 'shadow' of his cousin DG has missed the main issue - it's about the ND experience and how that affects the rest of your life! This is one of those 'life changing' decisions that he can't replay - DG is going to live with the consequences of his decision. I do wish him the best but I do feel a bit sad for him. GO IRISH!!

Bottom 10 Football Grad Rates: FBS San Jose St. 42% Oklahoma 44% South Florida 46% Hawaii 46% Florida International 46% Arizona 48% Texas 49% Georgia Tech 49% Houston 51% Eastern Michigan 51%

Guess the kid wants to play football and not go to class.....

Just have to have faith and hope BK turns around and gets a stellar 2013 class!!!!! Just need a good season coming up.

UMMM - seems that ND's grad rate of 97% wasn't much of a factor. Unless academics WAS an issue and maybe it was. Like BK said when a recruit is 'shopping' ND - he's going down a different aisle. There's more to ND than playing fb!! Recall Rudolph's advice to Eifert(previous post) about coming back(not going the NFL route) to ND for the 'right' reasons? These are the type of young men that are attracted to ND - the DGs are a different mind set - not meaning to be derogatory -they're shopping down a different aisle. GO IRISH!!

  • I understand kids change their minds all the time, but he should have mentioned he was staggering a little on his committment so that Coach Kelly and company could have concentrated on other recruits instead of dropping a bomb the day before.

Yes they do - "...change their minds...". Last year both Lynch & Tuitt had last minute changes going on but, in their cases, both their family were willing to talk with the ND coaches even at the 11th hour! Not seeing much family involvement with either Darby or DG - they just went out w/o further discussions with ND. I believe if ND had a chance to see these young men before NSD - ND would have done it. Still I'm very surprised with DG especially after his comments when Kiel committed to ND. ALWAYS - GO IRISH!!

  • Maybe the kid has performance anxiety and isn't ready to be on national TV each week. Some thrive in that environment but maybe he wanted the Friday Night Lights experience of Texas only on Saturday afternoons.

  • This was the most underhanded thing anyone could do. I'm appalled by the lack of integrity shoWn by the Greenberry kid. Don't think this kid will garner much respect whereever he ends up in life.
