Situated here at Joe Louis Arena for the CCHA semifinal game between Notre Dame and Ohio State. Notre Dame is in its home whites as the higher seed. Light crowd so far, but should be an entertaining game.
Notre Dame starters are Jeff Costello, Anders Lee, Bryan Rust, Kevin Lind, Stephen Johns and Steven Summerhays in net.
Ohio State starters are Max McCormick, Tanner Fritz, Alex Szczechura, Curtis Gedig, Craig Dalrymple and CCHA player of the year Brady Hjelle in net.
No score five minutes in. Notre Dame firing shots whenever possible early on. Irish leading 4-0 in shots on net.
Mike Voran, who left last Friday night's game with a lower body injury, is not in the lineup tonight. Senior Kevin Nugent gets a spot on the bench in Voran's absence.
Ohio State scores on its first shot of the day at the 10:04 mark. Ryan Dzingel from Anthony Greco. Buckeyes up 1-0 early.
Notre Dame gets a goal right back. Peter Schneider held on to the puck on a 3-on-1 chance and put a wrist shot past Hjelle with 9:08 to go in the first. Score is tied 1-1.
A give-and-go between T.J. Tynan and Mario Lucia gets the freshman a good look from the slot, but Hjelle shuts it down. Still tied 1-1 with 2:36 left in the first period.
Notre Dame gets a couple chances in the closing seconds of the first, but heads to the locker room tied 1-1 after 20 minutes.
Ohio State gets a great chance three minutes into the second period. A shot from Alex Lippincott hit a post then rolled across the goal line but never crossed into the net. The score remains tied 1-1 with 16:00 to go.
Notre Dame gets its first power play of the game with 9:29 left in the second period. Just Dasilva gets two minutes for tripping. Still knotted at one apiece.
No goals in the second period. Notre Dame and Ohio State will start the third period 1-1.
Thx Dan. Really love to see your updates, though it feels like they should come over a ticker tape while I wear a fedora. All this technology at my fingertips and i can't get to see the game. Oh well. I appreciate you keeping me informed.
The Irish have 28 shots on net through two periods. They have 14 shots on net in the final nine minutes of the second period. Ohio State has a total of 12 shots.
Third period is underway. Someone is down to their final 20 minutes of CCHA hockey.
Notre Dame takes a 2-1 lead on a power play goal from T.J. Tynan with 16:10 left in the game.

Notre Dame's fourth line puts together another impressive shift. They've played well all afternoon. Irish lead 2-1 with under 10 minutes to play.
Under five minutes to play. Notre Dame is up to 43 shots on net. That's 90 in its last two games against Ohio State, which is a ridiculous number.
Notre Dame and Ohio State both use their timeouts. 1:33 left and the Irish are hanging on to their one goal lead.
Jeff Costello scores on an empty net. Notre Dame leads 3-1 and is well on its way to playing for the CCHA Championship.
