Former Notre Dame basketball player Zach Hillesland is blogging for the New York Times again. Hillesland did a player diary during his senior year for the "quad blog" and cranked out some very enjoyable posts. Today, he rejoined the Times and offered some entertaining insight into Mike Brey's success. An interesting read to get you ready for tonight's game...

Excellent post. Excellent article.
Dan, is zach looking to make a career put of writing, or using it more as a creative outlet / on-the-side kind of thing?
I'm not sure. He's fun to read, but only pops up around tournament time with a few blog posts so my guess would be he is just having some fun. Here's another recent post of his that you guys might like...
A rundown of the top five men's basketball players in the Big East who invoke fear.
thequad.blogs.nytimes.comThe young man can write. Both articles contain some great nuggets of insight and humor. As to his remarks on Brey, it clarified for me the notion of a "Brey kind of player." I always defined it in terms of skills, and sometimes, lack thereof, but it's more of a character issue, and the kind of player who can respond, and even thrive under his coaching. It's an RKG kind of thing, but his criteria for that probably isn't the same as Kelly's, but I think when either gets them on the court or on the field, the end result is that you get a team for whom the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
Great (and funny) articles, Dan. Thanks for sharing the links! Brey's teams constantly surprise me during the regular season. Would love to see them have some post-season success to echo the work they've already done.
