I just lost a friend that I served in vietnam with today

  • I just found out that an Army buddy I served in Vietnam with passed away this morning. I won't go into the things we went through together and elaborate on all that. He was a good friend after that horrible war and we somehow managed to see each other every few years. I loved the guy like the brother I never had.

The reason for this post is I want to ask a favor of you board members. If you can find it in your hearts, please, please take a moment and in your own way say thank you to each and every veteran that served this wonderful country that we live in. You can do it silently to yourself or if you know a veteran, tell him "Thank you for serving".

Also if you can, Please attend veterans day ceremonies in your town or city. It will mean a lot to veterans and the relatives of veterans that have passed on.

Thanks guys and gals. Your the best!!

  • As a veteran, I thank the ones who came before me that went places and saw things we can not even think of to make sure we lived in a safe, free country. God bless all that have, are, and will serve.

  • naples,

Thank you for your service and that of your friend's. The men and women in our armed forces have made this country the power that it is, and it's too bad we don't all have the same dedication, discipline, and work ethic.

May your friend rest in peace.

  • Naples and other veterans,

As a historian, in my profession we talk a lot about generals and politicians and declare them heroes. We are so many fools. It is men (and women now) such as yourself and your friend that fought, bled, and sacrificed for our freedoms that are the true heroes. I am sitting just outside Rio Grande, OH teaching about the Civil War, and am able to do so because of your sacrifices and those of men and women just like you. So from someone who cares about the past and the people who made it; THANK YOU! wave

Thabnk you IB. I havemany many good friends that are Navy. Good men all

I will be sure and get in touch when I go to south bend to stay at Morris Inn. I am thinking it will be right after the first of the year.

I know what your thinking. Is this guy nuts to leave sunny Florida and come up to the snow of SB?

One short story and then this post will be over.

In High School in south bend, I went with a pretty young girl that loved the Grotto. And her favorite time to go was in the winter. So needless to say, we went many many times. I got to love the place when the snow falls and can't think of a prettier place inwinter time than the Grotto. So thats when I am coming I think

I will get in touch long before then.
