Brian Kelly has already earned the respect he deserves from those individuals who actually matter - the Administration, Jack Swarbrick, Coach Lou, Coach Ara, the student body, his players, his assistants, the incoming recruits and the legion of fans that spans the globe.
It has gotten to the point where - and I can't stress this enough - I couldn't possibly care less what the sports punditocracy thinks of Notre Dame. For all those who were alive during the Lou Holtz era (and being 37, those were the earliest years I can remember being a die hard fan), we have endured what is nearing 20 years of wandering aimlessly in the wilderness, trying to see a time when we will become "relevant" again in big time college football. But I've stopped worrying about that.
The facts are these:
The University of Notre Dame is in the pantheon of premier institutions of higher learning.
We don't bend or break either NCAA or internal rules regarding our student-athletes. (To wit: name me one other school in the FBS who would bench their starting QB because he was late to a team meeting due to discussions with a professor.)
Notre Dame is the only football team with a network TV contract.
Notre Dame is #1 in the GSR.
Notre Dame is #1 in the BCS.
For all those who are yearning for "respect" from the media and the wider fanbase, just stop - for your own good. Revel in the glory of being part of Irish Nation. Revel in the glory of what is turning out to be one of the greatest, and most memorable, seasons in the history of this fabled institution. Revel in the glory of yet another in a long line of legendary coaches. Revel in the glory of watching boys mature into men with every earned degree, every successful play on the field and every statement to the media. Revel in the glory of a return to glory; something for which we have been waiting 20 years to celebrate.
Revel in the glow of the Golden Dome.
yea guys, dont dare discuss your view of Notre Dame on a national level, it isnt a slightly interesting topic lol sheesh
Saban does it with oversigning, grayshirting, illegal benefits that are coming to light, and a shady program in general. Kelly has earned it the right way with STUDENT-athletes. He already has more respect than Saban and the other cheaters.
