Andy Staples released his post-spring Top 25 (and five more). The Irish did not make the cut, unlike with ESPN, which had them No. 24. LSU was picked No. 1.
ND opponents include No. 2 USC, No. 5 Oklahoma, No. 10 Michigan State, No. 13 Michigan and No. 14 Stanford. Furthermore, BYU, which comes between Stanford and Oklahoma on Oct. 20, came in at 28th among the best of the rest: Missouri, Baylor, BYU, Louisville and Ohio State.
You know what is always the popular column to these threads? "Good, I love being under the radar and sneaking up on people."
Only problem is Notre Dame hasn't truly snuck up on people since 1993, when it was rated in general as "low" as 8 to 10 because it was a rebuilding year after losing backfield stars Rick Mirer, Jerome Bettis and Reggie Brooks.
Maybe we can count the 2002 and 2005 regular seasons, but definitely not the bowls, which left a bitter aftertaste.
