Notre Dame will face No. 11 seed Rutgers Wednesday night in the second round of the Big East Championship at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The sixth-seeded Irish earned a first-round bye after finishing 11-7 in regular-season conference play. The Scarlet Knights (5-13 in the Big East) defeated 14th-seeded DePaul, 76-57, Tuesday in the opening round. Notre Dame and Rutgers will square off at 9 p.m. on ESPN2 in the fourth and final game of the day.
The Fighting Irish beat Rutgers 69-66 on Jan 19 at Purcell Pavilion in the only meeting this season between the two teams.
No. 12 seed Seton Hall topped 13th-seeded South Florida 46-42 in the other first-round game Tuesday. Seton Hall will play No. 5 Syracuse Wednesday. No. 8 Providence plays No. 9 Cincinnati and No. 7 Villanova goes against No. 10 St. John's in other second-round action.
