Is This It For Manti Te'o At ND?

Will another big season inspire Manti Te'o to leave a year early and enter the 2012 NFL Draft? The linebacker talked to BlueandGold.com about his future.

    Wes Morgan

  • I think Manti will stay and get his degree,he has his whole career after that for the NFL.

    Greg Zeppieri

  • As long as he graduates I'm all for whatever decision he makes, that goes for all college athletes. Also I think draft projection will play into the decision

Agreed. First and foremost, get the degree. He definitely has first round potential, so if he isn't a lock for the first after his junior year, come back for your senior year and work for it.

  • Cant they just play already? I am about to explode! I cant wait for that guy to be cut loose and crush someone. ARRRRRG!

  • I think he will end up staying. The Irish will be very close to BCS championship this year. Next year should be very promising as well. I think he'll try to win a title before he leaves ND. If we win it this year, he might be gone. The other thing is, this class of LBs is one of the best in years. There are 4-5 other really good LBs that will be turning pro. If he waits a year, he will be the top guy.

Or he can go pro in Round 1 and come back and finish the degree if it does not work in the NFL or after his successful career.

Too much wishful thinking in the comments section today. You go to college in order to get a better paying job than that which is available to a high school degree. He is doing that. Strike when the iron is hot and get that $ if he is an early pick. There is a long list of those that stayed and fell down the next year's draft board.

Well yea, I figured it was implied that if he was a first round lock, take the money and run. I have no problem with that.

  • Hey Wes,
Let the guy focus on this year and the team....Let him play his heart out for the Blue and Gold and the rest will take care of itself!!!!!

  • The kid didn't take a snap in his junior season and people are already writing articles about him going pro? A little early for any speculation as far as I'm concerned.

Riles, Wes was doing his job and exactly what most of us want him to do. If Manti's answer was, "I'm definitely coming back for my senior season," we'd all be praising Wes for asking the question.

My luck with the Irish: 2-4, 3-time POTW

  • Hopefully for Teo, a BCS bowl birth won't be the exclamation point on Teo's career. More likely a BCS bowl victory and possibly a NC. If he is a lock after this season for the first round Teo should move on to the NFL. If not stay. Go IRISH! I am so ready to see Teo flatten an opposing ball carrier.

  • While I think he would be a first round pick, I am confident his degree is the most important thing to him. If he is a first rounder in April 2012, he will be one in April 2013. Either way, I'm so happy he choose ND and has had the impact he has on this team and this program. I truly believe that we will have a top-notch D this year and that all stemmed from top D recruit Manti Te'o signing with ND a few years ago. He's been an incredible representative of the school and the program and may he have success regardless of the path he chooses.

  • The average pro career is less than five years. If he grades out as a first rounder he would be nuts not to take the money. He can finish his degree work later like Clausen did and be the richest student in his classes.

  • An often made mistake in logic is to project someone else's decision making based one's own ranking of priorities. You may have made that error. Not every ND football player thinks like you do. Te'o is a different character who comes from a culture and family with different values and standards. Anyone who followed his recruiting would understand this.

This guy appears to give more value than most to his team, love for his fellow players and completing different phases of his life, and the move on. I say appears because, of curse, no one really knows. But, I don;t believe that take the money and run is a slam dunk decision for Te'o.

  • What a terrible title, are you guys so desperate for hits? What a shame that you would take this nothing interview and turn it into this.....sorry but i hate it.

    irishhhh

  • Sorry but if Manti decides to turn pro and earn millions it doesnt mean he is not loyal to Notre Dame Du Lac. He broke the mold by enrolling in South Bend and not LA in the first place...giving his all everytime he has taken the field.

The man already proved his love for ND...he can and will take the step to the NFL if he projects high enough..as he should.

One more thought, he has already experienced a knee injury. He could have just has easily torn an ACL...lets see degree this year and hope not to get hurt or become a millionaire and earn your degree later? you folks got to be kidding....

  • He is a stud, if he has the same year this year that he did last year.....he'll be gone. I'd love him to stay but Floyd would have went pro as well if he was a 1st or 2nd rounder. All depends on where he is slotted.

    travisbarke

  • Manti has three decisions: Notre Dame, NFL and Mission committment and I think he has an outline to make choices that work for him.

The rest of us should be busy making GO IRISH BEAT USF signs and practicing cheers.

I agree. Let Manti have a great year and then we can hope that he loves Notre Dame enough to come back next year.

He has plenty to do with focusing on this season and giving all his efforts to the football team without reading a bunch of crap from a writer that wants to start a bunch of dissention.
