Just a typical night in men's basketball

  • #5 Georgetown lost, #6 Miami lost, # 13 Okla St. lost, #16 St. Louis lost and #23 UCLA lost. None of them lost to ranked teams.

Good luck with your Big Dance brackets this year. I think I'll pick teams based on school colors and nicknames. That means I'll be taking Arkansas if they get in.

    I may not be pretty, but I'm fast..... POTW 1/31/11 - 2/6/11

  • With Kelly back in the lineup, Plumlee down low, Curry shooting the threes, and Coach K with his four national titles on the bench, I would make Duke my No. 1 overall seed, but there is not a clear favorite like Kentucky last year. This is the type of year where everything is open enough for ND to make the type of run we've been waiting for (like the football team did).

I'll be picking based on the width of coaches' ties. If, like Brey, a coach does not wear a tie, I'll make selections based on the number of syllables of each team's sixth man's middle name.

  • the brackets will be a crapshoot this year, lol, lots of possible teams can get hot and win it all.

    First time POTW for 4/18/2011-4/24/2011.

At this point the games don't matter to the ranked teams..They're in. Next week we head to the League Tournaments, where again, the games only matter to the weak teams that need to show something to the committees. I heard Jay Wright interviewed yesterday and he was noting that the season has gotten just too long. March Madness now ends in April, the tourney draws aren't even picked until St. Patrick's Day. Almost every team has already played 30 games, which used to be a total only the 2 NCAA Championship opponents got to. and there are still 2 tournaments to play!

As for who is good this year? The Big 10 has a few teams that have a shot Indiana, Michigan, and Michigan State (as always with Izzo)! Miami U is very good. Syracuse, Louisville, can all beat anybody on a given night. Duke can certainly win a few and Villlanova has beaten several top 5 teams. Should be fun!

  • I am most frustrated by the reffing this season. I know that it is the same every year, but there is absolutely no consistency game to game, and I am noticing it more and more this year.

The prime example from last night... MSU vs. Wiscy. The physicality of play in that game was off the charts, but there were a limited number of fouls. As opposed to the week before, MSU played OSU where if you looked at the guy the wrong way it was a foul.

If you are allowed to play physical against Duke, they are very beatable. But if the refs decide to call a bunch of ticky-tack fouls, I think that Duke will be the National Champs again this year.

Maybe it is that there is no real 'two dimensional' team this year that can go physical or play finesse like the Dukes, North Carolinas and Kentuckys of the past. Every team is beatable depending on how the games are called.
