Irish head coach Brian Kelly gives an overview of the past year's recruiting effort.

  • Im not buying this. We got beat out on people who commited to ND
Either we failed to keep in touch......and let somebody step in to change there
minds. Too many people got talked out of ND.......BK this falls back on you and your staff.

    mrstrange

  • Apparently Tee didn't feel the need to give BK a heads up.

My luck w/the Irish 18-6...GO IRISH!!!

Riiiiiiggghhttt.... Do you really think this? If they didnt like BK to begin with they wouldn't have committed. BK and his staff were always on the road recruiting. Bottom line is they are 17-18 years old and they are going to change there minds several times. I don't see how you can blame anyone.

I think there's more to this story. Don't be surprised if Tee finishes his college career somewhere else

  • He posted the follow your heart thing to Deontay at 4 am eastern time, I do not blame him and it is not Tee's job to inform Kelly and the staff it is Deontay's. I think some thinking here would be good. They are cousins not Siamese twins. Deontay is a young man and it his responsibility. Tee was probably not happy when this came about and I would think he has some classes he needed to attend and get up for. Give me a break and if Tee leaves before the four years then it is obvious ND does not attract the type of kids needed to compete at the highest levels in the quantity needed but I myself do not buy into that.

  • Heck they wanted to contend for a BCS game or a National Championship game. They know they aren't gettin it here. Heck BK talks about Gunner getting a chance to compete. But watch out Tommy Rees is still around. Gosh that sounded bad but from what i've seen that's the truth

  • Why is this class in the books? Why are BK and coaches not out their recruiting some of the kids that didn't sign yet - Neal, Treggs, Diamond. Also it should asked why we didn't shift focus to second tier guys when it became clear we weren't getting the first tier guys.

  • My take is a lot of early committments from guys who either shouldn't have committed -- they only thought they were interested -- or who didn't like how the season panned out.

We lost 4 4-stars, right? Greenberry, Darby, Decker and, earlier, that LB kid from -- was it South Bend? ND was not their favored destination, and, when other opportunities emerged, they bolted.

In return, we scored Kiel and and the Carlyle transfer. Numbers wise, we got shortchanged, but, if what we needed most was a QB, the Kiel get could prove to be more than the equalizer.

Kelly's a good salesman, but no salesman, who is honest and above board, can outperform his product for long. ND has to win more to hold onto 4-star borderline kids.

I can't attest to the rest of the class, but when your blue chip recruit bolts - without notifying you - on signing day, it makes it kind of hard to snare those second tier guys.

  • There is a real easy way to improve recruiting In 2013 win some games on the field.

  • One of the questions about Kelly when he became Irish head coach was whether he could recruit at the high level Notre Dame coaches are expected to, given his experience at smaller profile schools prior to ND. I think it's safe to say with the job he's done since he's arrived, he's put most of those fears to rest, but it's also possible some of this year's issues may be part of a learning curve for Kelly and staff. In addition to the decommits, there were the Schutts and Andrades and Standifers who, in retrospect, might have been nice to have in order to round out some of the numbers and needs in this class, and who all could have been Irish.
While we're disappointed that this class wasn't what it once looked like it would be, BK and staff still put together a strong group, and I've no doubt they've learned from some of the near-misses this time around.

  • Very disgusted with how we closed out this class. It's a good class but didn't fill out all the needs like we should have and the defections really hurt. But if we start winning on the field like stated above i think things can only get better. It just seems like we are always battling depth issues at certain positions and it comes back to bite us.

  • If we would have been able to keep Darby or Decker, we would have a stronger class. I think our "lack luster" season, bad bowl gme and coachinf "trumoil" had a lot to do with these guys leaving.

As for Greenberry, there is something strange here. If youwant to play somewhere else - why would you pick UH? You'd be better off at Temple !

Personally, I think Tee will stay at ND. We need him, Kelly will treat him decently and he'll probably see some playing time next year.

What we need is a good season. Good Clean ball - no stupid mistakes, no 20+ TOs. Finish the year with a good bowl win.

I think Kiel will bolt if he doesn't get what he wants . He doesn't fit this system of Kelly's anyway . Why bring in a kid who is considered a drop back passer . Kelly gets in further over his head each year . Don't tell me about all the improvements . The scheduel this year has no pattys . If he can't motivate this team ( he hasn't yet ) this season will be his last . This should have been his best class so far and it is a poor class . He may well win 7 or 8 games a year . But that is all he will ever win . Am iI going to root against him , NO WAY , I want ND to win every game they ever play . He's not the man to bring us back and we will be back .

  • Better get used to 8-4 seasons, perhaps even some 6-6 ones. Maybe a 10-2 every 7 or 8 years. It's not 1988 anymore, things are different.
