Les Miles sounds off on Gunner Kiel again

  • CBS's Dennis Dodds sat down with LSU coach Les Miles this week and the coach was less than apologetic about the comments he made about Irish freshman Gunner Kiel on national signing day. Check out the link below.

Les Miles: Gunner Kiel didn't have "confidence", "swagger" for LSU - CBSSports

LSU's coach expounds on why he criticized the nation's No. 1 prep quarterback for not coming to Baton Rouge.

Kiel will, once again, take the high road when asked to react to the new comments made by Les Miles -- who continues to add credence to the meaning of a true "Michigan Man".

However, gosh I wish Kiel would ante up and just lace nine on LSU and Miles! "It's not lack of swagger or confidence...how about wanting to graduate with a degree that actually means something outside of Baton Rouge?". Those people are clueless...hopefully this just builds Kiel up even more and makes him the dominant force he can be.

  • This '' Michigan Man'', is still shell- shocked from his QB play against Bama for the National Championship. Crybaby. No class. Classic Meat-Chicken.

    ndguy7

  • he back hands ND here... as if ND is not a place where you have to have confidence... this man is an arrogant ars... has aways been... he coaches at a place akin to thunderdome... anything goes... Hell he was on hot seat two years ago... Sad this guy is a leader of men... the game is about him... too bad

  • He really needs to just stop talking about him much like Kelly has with Shepard

  • The SEC easily has the most scum bag coaches to go right along with the dirtiest programs in the country. Ya, it's a real shock they've won the last few NC's.

Guys, I hate to play devil's advocate here but I dont see anything terribly wrong with Miles' comments THIS time around. And footballwise, he's right, they are a cut above at present.

Lets hope that Gunner can make him look foolish down the road for having a faulty confidence building meter.

  • Miles could have responded more like Kragthorpe. Basically Miles is calling Kiel a pussy. Wouldn't it be great to someday face LSU in a BCS game again with Gunner at QB?

Have to disagree on this one. His contention, though stated a LITTLE more diplomatically than the first time, is that Kiel didn't have the confidence to try to make a go of it at LSU and that he was weak for staying close to home. Holy crap, that's 5th grade taunting and it's coming from the head coach of a major program. I find that embarassing for the school. Doesn't mention that 90% of the LSU team is from within 200 miles of campus - good thing those guys were too weak to stray far from home.

Talking as though LSU is a real team and ND is irrelevant is annoying, but can only be solved by turning things around and winning again.

No matter how angry a recruit makes you, how in the world can you take public shots to sooth your own ego. Throwing out juvenile barbs at a recruit that didn't do what you want is pathetic whining. Fans may have some issues with BK on occasion, but I can't even imagine him being anything but a class act when talking about recruits. Even when kicked in the teeth by someone's late decision or reversal, he either says nothing or wishes them well. I find it sad that a grown man, in a position of responsibility, can take these kind of shots at 18 year olds and not be brought to task. Where is the school president? Where's the Atheletic Director? What an embarassment for LSU and the NCAA in general.

  • They must don't have a QB that's BCS worthy. I don't know why he is still saying negative comments about a freshmen QB. Classless human being in my book. His luck is about to run out. I see them sliding a little bit. It was rumored that they had some racial differences prior to the championship. Being a African American. I know that can scar a program. If true....

  • All Kiel had to do is listen to how Miles handled his team before the National Championship game to figure out what kind of coach he is. I'm surprised he didn't run to South Bend after that clusterf*ck Les created.

Again, he should have handled it originally better. And while him saying anything negative about another player isnt attractive, the fact is that LSU is a better FOOTBALL program(which IS any SEC schools sales pitch besides Vandy).

Try and focus primarily on my last sentence, that Gunner can get a chance in person to square off against LSU in his 4-5 years. That will mean that ND has improved(or they have sunk).

  • bndally,

Good point about the large volume of LSU players who come from nearby, I reviewed the 2012 LSU roster and found 116 players with their hometowns. By my count, 77 were from Louisiana, and another 16 from neighboring states such as Mississippi, Alabama and especially Texas.

The only two I saw from the Midwest were running back Spencer Ware (Cincinnati Princeton) and linebacker Branch Kampe (Rochester, Mich.).

A grown man doesn't win when he engages in this kind of bitterness publicly. Steve Kragthorpe handled this with much more grace and aplomb.

    Lou Somogyi

  • Meaning that Gunner speaks in complete sentences which scares LSU players!!

    bdworks

  • Loose translation, Gunner came down here and realized he wasn't a big enough A***ole to play football for LSU. Besides, he would have destroyed our Wonderlick rate.

    psdo51

  • What a pathetic excuse for an adult. He thinks life's decisions are governed by some form of testosterone, and those that have it play for LSU. I doubt Les could outscore half his team in the Wonderlic.
