Let's Give It Up for Tommy

  • Saw the movie "Moneyball" last night. Great teams can be built with players who play with confidence and chemistry - not stars. TR fits that mold. Luv the guy's attitude.

  • At the risk of sounding heartless (I'm Irish, sue me !). Tommy got plenty of deserved love at the back-end of last season and on into the Sun Bowl vs the Convicts. This year.......there is a lot of lost love for him (rightly so in my opinion). Let us see him earn it back instead of handing it to him on a platter.

    Just my 2 cents.

  • For my 2 cents ... luv is not something one "earns." We are appreciating a student-athelete who has answered the call of duty at an early age. Just giving TR luv and support for his poise while living in the glass house of ND football.

When I think back to my student days at ND - and the pressure of classes - I cannot imagine as a sophomore - adding to that pressure-cooker - the glare of ND Nation and the national media.

TR is doing an incredible job as a human being and student-athelete.

Remember this is a luv thread We have many others on this board where we aptly and rightly discuss his play on the field.

I am reminded of the difference in role between a father and a mentor. (And that these are best kept separate.) A father's role with a son is more to give care and emotional support. A mentor's role is not to "care" so much but to teach.

Enough ... here is a thread dedicated to giving Tommy some luv.

Have you ever played on the big stage?

Imagine an 18 year old - in front of a worldwide audience - making mistakes - and never getting rattled - or down on himself. AMAZING!

And in seven games, Tommy has lead us back to take the lead in the fourth quarter - three times. THREE TIMES in SEVEN GAMES. Oh yes, we lost the Michigan game - but nothing can take away from this guy's poise and confidence.

I waited nine long months for this season. I plan to sit back and enjoy seeing Tommy grow week by week - game by game. And when the game is on line - and TR is under center - I know we'll score. How sweet is that?

So let's give it up for Tommy. What is your luv?

This is your original post ^^^^^^^. Seems to be football related to me!

  • I guess technically football was mentioned in the original post but, come on Shamrock1 give the ole boy a break. His point was the opening is the opening and closing line.

While I understand the football issues this isn't about that. It is about appreciating Tommy Rees the young man more than Tommy Rees the qb.

i cold write a homily/sermon about it but i leave that to a priest.....

I'll apologize for being too technical on this.....genuinely.

The Notre Dame QB is the man.......to suggest that he is under any more pressure than those gone by is just ludicrous.

I like Tommy....I like Dayne......have I ever been to Notre Dame ? Hell no ! I've been to the USA twice (if that counts for anything).....but I know my ND ball (25+ years).

Please do not tell me to give Tommy a break, just because he had a "tough" season........he has been given every break imaginable by Kelly.

  • Its amazing that Dayne Crist was chosen by the head coach to start and now seems to be an afterthought. He is a better player then Tommy Rees, period. Every time Rees drops back to pass, we ALL hold our breath. If you deny that, you're lying.

  • Uh, what is it about an appreciation thread that makes members disregard its intent?

Got comments of a critical nature about Rees - fine. Well and good. Just please post them elsewhere.

    Thanks.

Well this is the issue I guess.

You can create all the appreciation threads you wish....be them Rees/Crist/Hendricks/Golson. Until the true number one ND QB has established himself, only then will threads like this will be very much warrented...imho.

Until then.....expect EVERYONE to have their own opinion.

Ash, I think it must be a First Amendment thing. Football fans have an inalienable right to be critical on every single thread that is posted on a web site board, regardless of stated intent, or the fact that there are probably a dozen other threads where such criticism is the point of the thread.

  • I knew this would eventually happen the minute I first read this thread a few days ago.

The intent was there. Great effort out of many but a few started having that vein in their forehead start to pop out. Angry, very angry.
