Live Updates: Brian Kelly post-practice media session, day 14

  • With Dan Fox and Carlo Calabrese -- the coaches feel great about where the the Will position.

Jarrett Grace could play Will as well, but he'll stay behind Manti Te'o at the Mike.

Drop LB is still up for grabs with the competition through the spring.

  • Kelly is really pleased with Braxston Cave and his ability to move. He could probably play, but don't need to risk it.

He's been put through a battery of agility and conditioning -- and he's looking really good.

    On Tommy Rees:

Two main points of emphasis were extending plays and ball placement.

There aren't any issues with his arm strength and he has the mental ability to play the game, but it's limiting the turnovers.

If he didn't have that many turnovers last season, it wouldn't even be a conversation about who will start.

"There aren't any issues with his arm strength"

This is completely preposterous. Playing Tommy is akin to pulling the woods out of a golfer's bag. Are you going to be playing more safe? Yes. Are you going to reach your potential? No.

  • listen everyone
you have to understand something about Rees, he know 10X more then any of the other guys. If a 22 year coach says arm strength isn't an issue, maybe cause of the offense , maybe cause its strong then it isnt. On ball placement, phyics matters on the flight of the ball.
If Tommy is arcing the ball too much to get height on it, it will slow the ball down.
If Tommy, on a crossing route does not want to gun it in cause he is worried about leading the receiver too much then it can look like a weak arm
Thats wise Kelly is saying ball placement matters. Its like trying to hit a sac fly or trying to hit single up the middle. If you try and do one or the other the ball can seem stronger or weaker coming off the bat

Rees knows more and can read the defense better. Its on the other guys if they can not over take him and it should show with all the ability "we think" the other guys have . We trash on Rees so much (im guilty) and sing everyones praises but then those guys can't command or catch up on the offense then maybe our praise was..dare I say, "pre-mature"
this is a statement of fact, and as someone once said
"your entitled to your opinion but not your own facts"
lets just cheer for the team and whoever grabs the reins so be, and I'll still cheer with whoever is throwing TD's and booing whoever throws INTs

No, it made me shake my head. Why are we not giving guys reps doing this in a similated game situation?

Everything seems to point to Grace being a more dynamic player than either Calabrese or Fox. I think BK would want his best 4 LB's out there and I am surprised Grace isn't given a better chance to compete at the WILL.

One strike and your social media outlets are shut down. Can't imagine there would be any playing time repercussions. Or Wii penalties for that matter either.
