wats golsons and GAIIIs weight
-- Not necessarily a restriction on where he can go. They talked about it. The school list he had were in line with what Brian Kelly expected as it relates to the team's schedule.
-- There was a little surprise because he was told there would be the opportunity to compete.

On Early Enrollees:
-- James Onwualu has been outstanding. He can play with the veterans right now in terms of conditioning and weight training. We'll see how it is when we put the pads on.
"He's been very, very impressive."
-- Mike Heuerman has added weight to get up to 230 pounds.
-- Steve Elmer is 317 pounds now. He's put on a lot of weight since he's gotten here.
On QB position:
-- Everett Golson has experience, but that's all he has. Tells the other QBs that when you have your opportunity to compete, you have to be ready for it.
On center position:
-- Nick Martin, Mark Harrell and Matt Hegarty are all in the mix for the position.
Kelly on Hegarty:
"I think any time you talk about blood flow and cardiac and all those things, those are terms we become very cautious with. ... I think we did an incredible job of being on top of it. ... Everybody was on the same page with this kind of serious condition."
-- Austin Collinsworth is cleared for spring practice.
On George Atkinson III
-- It's his time, but he's got some guys that have something to say about that. Like the competition at the running back position.
Atkinson didn't participate in track and field because he wanted to focus on being the No. 1 back.
Kelly says it's RB George Atkinson's time. "He has really committed himself to being that guy."
On post-Eagles interview:
"They don't like me much anyway..."
-- There was very little talk about it behind closed doors about the situation. The team appreciated my candor about it. And we moved on.
-- I think other teams will continue to pursue me because we're going to win here.
-- Lo Wood is 100 percent cleared and "looks good".
On CB position:
-- We want competition. The program is better off because of it. It's going to be a competitive situation and the right guys will play. We've got to find the "Matthias Farleys", the guys that can step in and contribute.
The job of recruiting is to find guys that can compete right away.
On Mike linebacker:
-- When you talk about the spring, especially when trying to find a replacement for Manti Te'o, there should be great competition this spring.
-- Dan Fox is a guy that the coaches know can play the inside position. Not looking at him to play Mike, but clearly have Carlo Calabrese, Jarrett Grace, Kendall Moore... a group of guys that can play in there.
-- Te'o was different because he never came off of the field. But need two or three deep at positions.
On the offense line:
-- There some crossover there position-wise and the spring will help get it all sorted out.
-- A lot of confidence in Conor Hanratty that he can step in and play the guard position.
-- There's great competition, but just have to sort out the center position.
On position changes at LB:
-- Won't move Danny Spond or Ben Councell outside. Want to continue to develop them as OLBs during the spring.
-- Going to take a look at C.J. Prosise and cross-train him at safety and wide receiver.
Got a glimpse of him during bowl practice at wide receiver and really liked his ball skills.
-- Elijah Shumate will stay at safety.
On Joey Brooks:
-- He has worked hard, has attention to detail and is willing to come in and compete.
Kelly on Joey Brooks coming over from the hoops team:
"The kid has worked really hard. We like his attention to detail. We're going to give him a fair opportunity."
On the NC game vs. Alabama and a new perspective on the loss:
"On the defensive line we weren't pushed around as many people talked about."
