Hey, until they change the rules or conform language to its actual meaning, it's open season. I think guys like McMullen and Armstead have to be attracted to the idea of playing with Tuitt, Lynch, et al., plus the possibility of Jones and Day joining them. Talent begets talent.

You are right pig, most elite players not only look at the current class but past classes. Great players want to play with other great players. It doesnt hurt that BK is playing Lynch, Tuitt, et al. It shows the recruits that the best players will indeed play.

The question I have is would ND take him? Sure it's easy to say he is a talent and ND should take any guy of his caliber, etc, etc. But we have already turned down a guy who is rated above him in Schutt. Would he be playing on OL? Would we be flipping someone else to OL? If the answer to either of those are yes, then why not take Schutt when we had the chance?

If we can land him, I absolutely hope we accept his commitment. Landing him would give us flexibility with Jarron Jones as to whether he plays OT or DE/DT.

The kid goes to a Holy Cross HS that even has it's own little mini Golden Dome. He'd fit right in.

much of the staff graduated from ND and are brothers of the Holy Cross. The school is modeled after ND. Locally St Vincent/St Mary Fighting Irish and Hoban are big rivals.
When I was younger St V/M used the ND leprechaun and the Hoban stepped in and saw that it was stopped since then the football game is played off campus at neutral site.
Hoban students should fit into ND academically and the jump to the next level should be smoother than most.

Keep in mind that prospects ratings on 247sports, Rivals, Scout, ESPN, etc are completely different on how the ND staff rates prospects.

His tackling ability and speed are not that impressive when looking at his highlights. I think ND should save a scholly for the elite of the elite and I'm looking forward to a Trojan beat down this Saturday! Go Irish!

That's exactly what I was asking, I didn't know the staff was looking at him as a potential OLB. I realize that the coaches don't go by board ratings, but after looking at 247, Rivals, Scout, and ESPN, every recruiting database thought Schutt was better. That is why I was asking the questions I was, because it takes no sense to pass up a DT who is rated higher to pursue a lower rated prospect who is committed somewhere else. Seeing that McMullen could play OLB, and seeing that we haven't filled that spot yet it makes sense I guess.

Are you all pretty much in agreement that McMullen would have a place in the class? Seems like he'd be a damn tough talent to turn away, but I do see the discussion about Schutt.
Hadn't thought of him playing at OLB, personally. Interesting thought.
