ND Post-Spring Wrap-Up: D-Line

  • One of the two or three best interviews on the team is Nix, not only because he's engaging and affable but he's forthright. Sean Cwynar indicated last season that Nix's attitude uplifted him because he never seems to have a bad day.

There are peaks and valleys in a student-athletes life, and maybe there were a little more valleys for Nix this spring. He's only human. The season will be a greater barometer than any spring practice. Last year at this time the staff was hoping he could provide 15 to maybe 20 snaps per game. He was regularly doing 30 or 40 and ended up being the top tackler among the linemen while playing a position that often has to take on two people.

That's why we gave him the nod over Jonas Gray as the team's most improved player in 2011.
