ND to Big 12

Just heard rumor from TCU buddy who is hearing that Florida State and Clemson are headed to the Big 12 and that ND will join for all sports with 4 football games per year. BYU joining for football only. Meeting this past week with ND in attendance. Word to come out next week. One tidbit was a Texas- ND national TV game every Thanksgiving. ESPN drooling no doubt. With all the flap on our guys enjoying brews maybe this has missed everyone's radar or it is a bogus rumor. The Thanksgiving game would mess up our current post Thanksgiving game in California but schedules can be changed. Living in Texas this would be huge.

This rumor has been out there for a while. ND stays independent with one foot in the Big 12. If more changes happen in college football making being independent no longer viable, then both feet enter the Big 12 boat. I guess when ND goes all-in down the road, BYU will do the same with their non-football sports.
I kind of like this arrangement. Playing Texas, Florida State, Oklahoma and Clemson would be a lot of fun.

The last non-sellout game in The Stadium was played on Thanksgiving day during the NC championship year of 1973.
After that non-sellout - ND VOWED never again to play on Thanksgiving day. I sincerely doubt that vow is about to change. Yes, many things change ... but somehow I doubt this one. Then again, I could be very off.

We would stay independent if this happens. We would just be adding four Big 12 opponents each year to our schedule.

Why not? We're still Independent in this scenario. The Big East is seriously in trouble right now with this new playoff scenario. They will have just lost their non-AQ status in the BCS. The Big East meanwhile is becoming a collection of mongrel Programs. For now, ND Independence is safe, but it makes sense to get its foot inside the boat of a legitimate Football conference. I doubt strongly ND will be independent by 2020.

I have to admit, a B12 with ND, Texas, OU, and FSU is an absolute juggernaut. The TV deal would be an embarrassment of riches and it offers ND strong hoops, baseball and Olympic sports. IF we are forced to join a conference this is the way I'd like to see it happen. If we have a tough season this year with the NBC contract coming due (imagine what the ND-WF game ratings will be if we go into that game with 5 losses, yikes) and with the new playoff system being implemented it may be time for us to pull the trigger... We'd be the B12 anchor for the Midwest market.

Why would that vow be any stronger then NDs goal to stay independent?
