NT Recruiting

  • Are we in the running for any NT in this class? I can't think of any off the top of my head...I think we should try to target at least one in this cycle with this being the 3rd year in the program for Louis Nix. If he has a dominant year, he will be eligible for the draft, so I don't think it's a bad idea to stock up while we can. Is Pagano about our only option here? Thanks!

  • Yes, this is a position of concern, like others. I believe Nix will stay or needs to stay his full college career. He still has room for improvement. He needs to get in and stay in shape in order to be at his best. And yes, ND needs to build on the NG position, unless they switch to a 4-3, which they do use sometimes during games.

    They are recruiting fits on the DL that can slide inside or outside. As it is difficult to find a pure NT for the 3-4 and then also get them admitted to the university. Look for guys like a) Kona Schwenke who they sign and then spend a couple of years bulking up(i.e. Nick Fairley at Auburn or Marcel Dareus at Bama) or b) Tuitt who can play both inside and outside in varying fronts.

    Also, let us not forget Jarron Jones who is now up to 306.

  • Thanks Jason and hemy, hopefully we can land Auguste! If Jones is up to 306 now, would he be better suited for the offensive side of the ball, especially since he has such a high pad level?
