We have Hendrix, Golson, and Gunner. Plus two more "recruits" who are QBs. If Kelly plays TR again, the best of these kids will be looking to transfer. I can't see Golson standing on the side line, hoping to play as a junior - especially behind a QB who committed over 20 TOs, and can't out run my Gram!

Gunner does have a strong arm, is mobile, and definitely can read defenses just as good or better than Golson. The kid grew up in a QB family so he knows what he is doing. Most analysts claimed he was theist college ready QB to come out since Barkley. I'd still like to see him either red shirt this year or get some garbage time to prepare him for next year when he takes over full time. I'm not like everyone else who is sold on Golson because high school tape. Go with Hendrix this year and Gunner for the next 3

NDShepard I'm not sold on Gunner because of his tape and ranking but more to the fact that he starred at every camp and event he attended against very good competition and was said to be far and away the best QB at the army all American game. Add that to the fact most analyst, like I said earlier, had him as the best prospect since Barkley. And also his pedigree plays a factor for me, as do his physical stats. Then you have Golson who, let's be honest, most ND fans never even heard of until ND started recruiting him not doing any of the above Kiel has. The videos of him in high school are great but he wasn't facing the best competition, looked bad in last years spring game, and has had trouble with turnovers and still having difficulty reading the defenses. Gunner played against poor competing as well but he did go against the best in the country at various camps and was always on top. So yes Gunner has shown me more.
I still think Hendrix should start this year

NDShepard- I also agree that Golson has a strong arm. Yes I do watch Notre Dame Football and yes I've watched the turnovers from the starters from Last year. Sometimes I believe in airing it out is just as important as having a solid running game But my friend if you think BK ran a balanced offense last year you were probably watching Notre Dame from the 90's. If you can stretch that defense last year with Michael Floyd it could have opened the offense even more last year. Also if you think that Rees has a better arm than Kiel than I'll have one of what your Drinking. I truly Believe Tommy Rees has reached his Max. But if does better, than we will all Cheer for Notre Dame.

Gunnar would win less games this year than all of the other 3. He doesn't have the strongest arm, he is the most green, he hasn't picked up the playbook, he can't read defenses (yet), he hasn't adjusted to the speed of the game, he is the 3rd most athletic/mobile of the 4. It's a joke to just "give him the ball" because he was a 5 star recruit. If Golson was as tall as Gunnar, he would have been a 5 star as well. Gunnar's skill set is actually less impressive than Hendrix and Golson IMO. The kid has a future, but just "giving him the ball" in 2012 spells disaster.

I'm sorry, but what? This kid has been raised as a QB. I guarantee he's done more than just picked up the playbook as well.. His arm is just as impressive as EG's and while he isn't the most mobile, he's still an above average runner with 4.7 speed; that's all this offense needs is a true QB who is a threat in the open as well, not some 4.4 QB. This is Nebraska or Navy, it's a spread offense. While the learning curve is steeper, I do not believe him starting spells disaster. In fact, I feel quite the opposite. Gunner Kiel is our future and with gained experience will come greatness. He's not some average QB who played in a BS HS offense, he's a very intelligent football player whose been learning the nuances of playing QB since he started playing football and he's the best man for the job.

#1) 4.7 is not above average. LB's and DE's run 4.7. And I doubt he runs a legit 4.7. More like a 4.8-4.9
#2) How many true freshmen QB's have success at the major college level vs the type of opponents ND will see this year? I bet you couldn't name 5.
#3) Do you really think being in a "QB Family" makes that much of a difference? Do you follow youth sports? Kids these days get personal trainers and coaches at a very young age. Kiel doesn't have an advantage because his siblings and uncle played QB.

Needs to be Gunner
