This is the proposed pictures of a renovated new ND stadium link... Check it out, pretty cool. Does anyone know if this is a done deal and if so, when do they begin?

  • I see that Kelly gets his jumbotron. Although no double-jumbotron action.

I'm with the carpenter on this one; small tweaks are OK, but I don't want the ND Stadium that I loved so much during my time there to be changed beyond recognition. What's next? Naming rights?! If they ever name that stadium anything other than Knute Rockne Stadium (since it's supposedly the stadium he 'built'), I'd be very, very upset. For me, ND Stadium is just fine, thank you very much.

    Thanks for sharing the pix.

  • This isnt a real proposed new stadium. this is something a student at ND drew up for fun. Its all explained on Irishenvy boards.

  • respectfully disagree, it looks nice. it keeps all the traditional look of the stadium and provides some luxury booths and a jumbotron without taking anything away for the stadium.. the noise should also be better contained in the stadium making it louder and giving the boys a little better edge at home. get it done now.

  • This is simply nothing more than a kid with a computer program with too much time on his hands. Nothing has been proposed and ND Stadium is not going to be renovated.

  • Personally I like it and it would get all the old money farts off their hands and out of the stands into the club level seats, allowing more psychotic young people and locals to scream , yell and increase mayhem.

Except for the Jumbotron and the new "grass" ish surface...those are definitely coming...it's no longer a matter of "if" but "when"

Agreed, the field turf and jumbotron will be additions but not a renovation. I expect those two items to be here before the 2013 season if not next fall.

  • Does it include more fan capacity...more seating. Gotta have the jumbotron!!!

It is the stadium that Rockne build. And as a side light, my grandfather laid brick on the stadium. That was his claim to fame.

That was one of my first thoughts, doc. The wealthy blue hairs could buy the club level seats and keep their quiet arses upstairs, freeing up more room inside the bowl for rowdy, passionate fans.

The physical presence of the club level boxes would also keep more noise contained inside the stadium, further adding to the volume . . .

Jumbotrons add to the excitement at times, allow fans to view replays, etc. I think that's coming one way or another, and I'd prefer to see it incorporated into a design that adds the club level boxes.

I'm not totally sure about how I feel about the street level views, but when I think about that I also have to acknowledge that there have been so many new buildings built on campus in the 25 years since I graduated and most of them have moved toward a newer design theme and this stadium appearance is generally consistent with that overall new look. I've grown to accept the fact that the campus just isn't what it was when I was there and that things have to grow and evolve. That's just life.

These were just rough CAD designs put together by a student, but I'd be in favor of the University looking at new design concepts similar to these.

We're al just dust in the wind.

    Hooray!

Old people stay home and watch reruns of Matlock in their sweaters.

Change just scares the crap out of some people. I find it utterly hysterical.

Tradition should never stand in the way of progress, and Notre Dame hasn't been able to get out of their own damn way for a long time.

If that's the case, then the stadium should have stayed at 54k seats.
Updating a stadium has nothing to do with tradition. Winning is our tradition.

  • I dont mind it, I dont know if there is room to install that addition between the Joyce Center. I would not mind an addition of box seats across from the press box but I dont see the need to over haul the whole stadium, plus this is just one persons idea, which is pretty creative but I dont think anything gets changed beside a Jumbo tron and field turf, which will probably be in by next season.

I like the proposed Jumbotron pictured, close off one endzone and help trap so noise, especially at that side of the stadium where it can get kinda quite.

  • Has anyone seen Michigan's renovation? It used to look basically just like NDs. They put in 3 rows of boxes stretching the entire field on both sides of the stadium, a new facade on the outside, turf, and a jumbotron.
