Northwestern Announces 2-Game Series With ND

  • Northwestern and Notre Dame are renewing their rivalry in 2014, according to Jim Phillips, NU's director of athletics and recreation — who also was an associate AD at Notre Dame under Kevin White. The announcement was made on ESPN's Mike & Mike in the Morning radio show today by Mike Greenberg, a Northwestern alum, and Mike Golic, a Notre Dame alum.

The Wildcats, who last played the Fighting Irish in 1995, will travel to South Bend on Nov. 15, 2014 and then the Fighting Irish will visit Ryan Field during the 2018 season — their first visit there since 1976. Northwestern and Notre Dame have played one another 47 times in the last 121 years, making the Fighting Irish the Wildcats' most popular nonconference opponent in program history.

Although the Wildcats and Fighting Irish have played one another 47 times, the schools have met just four times--from 1992 to '95--since the 1976 season. Northwestern won the last encounter, a 17-15 victory over Notre Dame on Sept. 2, 1995.

  • Another B10 team?

Wonder why we have completely abandoned trying to schedule SEC teams like we have played in the past 25 years like Tennessee, Alabama, Vandy etc.

My luck w/the Irish 18-6...GO IRISH!!!

  • I think this is nice to see. We havent played them since they beat us in 1995. Should be a fun game to watch.

  • A big ten team playing us in november. That's interesting. they usually will not play out of conference that late. very rare i think.

    First time POTW for 4/18/2011-4/24/2011.

  • Love it, live right outside of Chicago. Northwestern has made a very big PR push in the last year "Chicago's Big Ten Team" has been plastered all over the city. I really like that they return the game to Evanston instead of bringing it to Solider Field.

I got a kick out of Golic saying there will be more ND fans in the stands in 2018, which probably will happen.

Good all around, I dont think Fitz will be there in 2018, probably will have moved along. Who knows, maybe hes on the ND sideline in 2018

  • Northwestern had the second biggest spike in attendance in 2010. Only Louisville was higher. Both programs seem headed in the right direction, so those games should be a lot of fun. LOVE that they're playing the game in Evanston rather than a neutral site.

Fitzgerald won't leave Northwestern. He grew up in the south suburbs, went to school there when no one else wanted him as a recruit and could care less for Notre Dame. He'll coach there as long as they let him.

  • Have to agree with everyone else. I think this is a good schedule for both teams. I also would like to see as others mentioned, some more "new" teams scheduled.
