“This decision makes sense for the BIG EAST,” said Aresco. “In view of Notre Dame's expressed desire to join the ACC on an earlier timetable, the BIG EAST and Notre Dame were able to arrive at an acceptable resolution. The BIG EAST can now focus fully on its future alignment and rebranding efforts. I want to thank the Notre Dame administration and Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick for their efforts in moving toward this orderly transition. Notre Dame has been a valued member of the BIG EAST and we wish them well."

not only is it Syracuse and not Cincy, ND will not have to pay the $2.5 mill. exit fee as they will forgo their share of the departure fees that other schools have paid.

Some publications have reported the $2.5 million as an "exit fee". What it sounds like is that it's not necessarily a penalty ND has to pay, but the portion of the league's assets it will forfeit. That's why I said it will cost ND that much, not that it has to cut a check for that amount.

Well at least we know where we will be at. Its still a shame what happened to the Big East in basketball. Football drives the bus anymore and sometimes that sucks. I mean football in all Division 1 programs, not just at ND. I am first and foremost an ND Football fan but i also love college basketball and i think its a sad day with the Big East on its last legs as we know it.
