  • Just get Fuller on campus then put him wherever, five star athlete.

  • The Kelly camp must have gotten some word of Kiel likely to go elsewhere. The reason I say that is because we need more DB's than we need a QB and that is how we originally recruited Fuller. Now suddenly they would like to recruit him at QB? Seems suspicious, only time will tell

  • Exactly. Love how the coaching staff is going after another QB. Rees is pretty ineffective is the Kelley offense and with possible transfers and injuries its always good to bring in a QB with every class. Keep the stable full. If he doesnt work out we got a 5 star ATH on campus to use where we can. I know the Irish originally were recruiting him as a DB in the first place.

  • Connecting the dots I'm guessing Kiel has notified the ND staff that he is going elsewhere. Why would ND re-visit the decision to recruit him as a QB as opposed to DB?

Getting in with him now so if Kiel does go elsewhere we have another QB prospect lined up. Fuller said in the interview if Kiel commits to the Irish he will probably look elsewhere but if not they the Irish are high on his list. Im pretty sure Kiel hasn't notified anyone yet. Just the coaches being proactive so they have a plan B if Plan A doesnt work out.

  • Hes a great athlete. Whether its at QB or elsewhere, he's an asset to the Irish. He does need work mechanically, but he can't be worse than Denard or Mr. Tebow.. Love that the staff is working so hard to put the best players they can in blue and gold and on the field for us.

  • Yet another reason why I am excited about the future. Just seems that this coaching staff is working on another level than previous coaches.

  • Might we also consider that without Molnar, the staff is taking closer looks at guys he may have passed on for whatever reason? If you've got a 5star athlete with high interest, find a way to get him on campus and figure out where he fits. If he's an RKG, he's not going to be dead-set on one position if he might excel at another. Love to hear about guys being excited instead of hesitant.

  • Okay, I just watched his 2010 highlight film, and one thing was apparent -- he can motor. He's elusive, but more than that, he has another gear. It didn't seem to matter if you had an angle on him. As for passing, his form is not what you'd call classic. Seemed to have decent arm strength, particularly since he frequently looked to be throwing off the wrong foot. One of the first thoughts I had was that he can probably run better and throw better than Tony Rice, but that's probably not fair since Fuller's doing it against high school kids. It's a curious move by ND since he's been on the board for a while with not a mention of him as QB, and now he's a hot item. I have to wonder like Kinsiah, if Molnar's departure plays a role in this, because what other variables have changed to account for a move in this direction? And does Molnar's departure have anything to do with Kiel's possible shift in interest (I say "possible" because we have very little to go by)? I don't know what to make of this, but if ND's interest is really strong for him at QB, then this has some very interesting implications in the direction of the offense.

  • I would tend to agree with kking. Get him in the fold. Kiel is apparently gone and im ok with tht. Just keep, Darby, Shep and Greenbury.

  • Wow, this really came out of left field. Some great points made by a few of you. I'll take this as the "writing on the wall" that Kiel is headed to LSU, glad that saga is over.. As someone stated BK must not be sold on the QB's we have on the roster. I remember it being stated early in the recruiting process that we would pursue Kiel and if we missed we would wait until next year to pursue a QB. How big of factor did the Crist developments play in this? I'm sure very few, if any, thought we would only have three QB's on the roster heading into next year. As far as Fuller goes, great athlete! Looks like there is a lot of love for ND coming from his camp. Give him a shot at QB and if that doesn't work out move him to CB/WR. He seems an awful lot like Jaylin Marshall in next years class. Marshall is one of my top 4/5 players in that class. It looks like the only serious competition is Rutgers and Nebraska. Nebraska fans are probably hating us at this moment.lol

  • I'm not a conspiracy theorist kind of guy, but I do find this interesting:

    - Molnar was recruiting Kiel

    - Molnar leaves

    - Kiel's interest seems to shift away from ND

    - ND's interest seems to shift toward Fuller, a completely different kind of QB

This makes me very interested to see what kind of moves ND makes in the offensive coaching staff.

Steve W., if I'm making too much of any of the above, you can step in any time.

  • If we can get him take him. If gunner goes somewhere else you can try him at QB. But like stated above, by Merlin i think, he is a 5 star athlete, we need these type of kids.

    First time POTW for 4/18/2011-4/24/2011.

  • Just to throw out another thought... maybe the staff feels comfortable with the postition they are in with either Wright and/or Shumate, filling out the DB class with Shepard and Darby. If the DB class is full, and this guy wants to come to ND, let him come in as a QB. Sounds like a good kid with his priorities straight, and you can always find a way to get a 5* athlete on the field.
