Notre Dame moves up to No. 3 in the 247Sports team rankings

  • Following the commitment of ILB Michael Deeb, Notre Dame moves up from No. 6 to the No. 3 class in the land in the 247Sports team recruiting rankings.

  • And just a quick note on this; I've posted on this concept before. Team rankings are total of the players times their rating number. Each star rating has a rating range, for example a 4* might have a 90 rating or a 95 rating but still be a 4*. So if you add together the total ratings of all of the players in the class, the team with the highest total is ranked as the #1 class. And of course the rating services all use some other interesting math in their equations. But, needless to say, the advantage goes to the team with the highest number of commits in their class.

So, take a look at Michigan with their 22 players compared to ND with only 16. By the time we close out to 22ish commits we should have left Michigan far behind. How far behind will depend on who our final 6ish commits turn out to be, if Michigan adds a couple more, and of course, if Michigan ends up with one of the mystical 30 member classes. Don't expect to see that from a Big 10 school but they could certainly pick up a few more before NSD.

  • True...but we just went from #8 to #3 in the country by adding two 3* (Deeb being an 84 rating...a pretty low 3*). They're both big pick-ups but it just adds more credence to the fact that these rankings are meaningless until there is parity with regard to complete number of recruits. You can look at average number rating but that becomes less meaningful when you pick up an unrated kicker (or long-snapper). I'd say the best way is to analyze your top 12- 15 or so recruits because usually those are the ones that will see the playing field.

I hate U of M with a passion but they have a better haul than us...they are a consensus #1/#2 in every ranking even when you don't consider the amount of recruits they have. Their total of Top247 players is astounding and I don't see us getting near that by February 2013.

Here's to closing out strong, though...starting with Anzalone!

  • Still big names left to add in Anzalone, A. Muhammad, K. Muhammad, Alexander, possibly VH3 or Willis, Ogundeko, and Stringfellow.
