Notre Dame’s Class of 2012

The highly esteemed 2008 football recruiting class receives its greatest reward today (May 20) at Notre Dame, plus a couple of other thoughts.

  • Lou, you are the only person on the planet that could have come up with the tie-in between the triple crown of horse racing and Notre Dame football. I personally believe the stars are aligned for a magical season this year and I sense that you do too, but will not admit it. But it's all there, team turmoil, underage talent, a new quarterback, new coaching staff... need I say more? If not now, when?

    topgome

  • Only you, Lou. That bit about the Triple Crown and ND just proves that you have forgotten more about ND football than most of us will ever know.

5-Time POTW Winner, 4 time at BGI and 1 at 24/7

  • I guess i will be rooting for a triple crown winner,lol.

    First time POTW for 4/18/2011-4/24/2011.

    Thanks Lou

AND congratulations to all the new Grads !

Question please on the NCAA GSR

    If Furina graduates from UCLA,

does that give ND a 100% GSR in football ?

If does get a 100% GSR, second question please,

my recall is of many high GSRs in the upper nineties,

but can not recall for sure,

if ND football has ever gotten a 100 % GSR,

    believe ND has.

For the academic triple crown question

    if both above are affirmative,

how many 100% GSRs has ND garnered ?

  • I'm with the others on applauding you for the nifty Triple Crown analysis. Let's only hope that both 'I'll Take Another' and Notre Dame repeat history. That horse has mastered the art of pipping its more hyped adversary at the post twice in a row.

BTW, Kyle Rudolph was a second round pick. However, like Mr. Floyd, I'm sure he would have been a first round selection if he had stayed an extra year.

Thanks for an uplifting read, Lou!

  • The brass ring is achieved when the pieces fall in place not when the critics say so. As you imply, not predict, why not this year? Every year a dozen or so teams have a genuine shot if they get on a roll. It's called momentum and can come into play when least expected. These favorite teams usually come from a proven program with a top coaching staff, a supreme offensive player (usually QB or RB) or a shut down defense.

There is one other ingredient - a team that will not be denied.

  • Amidst it all, they persevered, remained dedicated and earned their degree, the foremost objective for every student-athlete. From quarterback Dayne Crist returning from Lawrence, Kansas so he could walk with his class, to outside linebacker Darius Fleming, who recently tore his ACL in the San Francisco 49ers mini-camp, to defensive lineman Sean Cwynar picking up his master’s in an accelerated MBA program, they should be well armed to take on even far greater challenges in the decades to come. -- Dr. Lou II

This article and especially this paragraph speaks volumns. It is one of your best and most insightful pieces. It is a - Wow Factor. Many thanks.

Thanks for providing conscience — and sane consciousness — to my work. Working with only two brain cells rattling up there for me has its problems.
