Oklahoma Game

  • Per Daily Oklahoman - Receivers Trey Franks, Jaz Reynolds, and Kamel Jackson suspended indefinately for violating team rules. Quotes OUInsider.com as saying Franks out for a year and Reynolds for 7 games. [ND is OU's 7th game] Also, defensive back Quenton Hayes suspended indefinetly. Leaves Landry Jones with only Kenny Stills to throw to.

  • Irishwise,

Thanks for the update. This is what we mean when we constantly say you never know how difficult a schedule is going to be until you get into the season and some developments occur. A couple of years ago when Matt Barkley was sidelined ... suddenly USC wasn't the juggernaut it appeared to be earlier in the year and ND stole a win in the Coliseum.

Now, playing at Norman is difficult regardless. Just saying let things play out before anyone starts to anoint this as "one of the most difficult schedules ever."

"The schedule wouldn't look so tough if we were better."
    — Lou Holtz, prior to 1988 season

  • Apparently these guys have been in hot water for a while, which is why OU signed 5 WRs last year.

  • I'd heard late last season from some Oklahoma fans that there are a lot of problems internally at OU right now.

  • The other guy they will really rely on at receiver if these suspensions stick throughout much of the season is freshman Trey Metoyer. He was one of the top recruits in the country a couple years ago and then spent a year at a military school to get himself ready for college. Talking to folks in Norman, they are expecting big things from him and say he doesn't act like a freshman on or off the field.

  • In addition to all the incoming freshmen Beeds mentioned, All-WAC Fresno State junior receiver Jalen Saunders, is transferring to Oklahoma, but he won't be eligible until 2013.

Seldom do you see a player transfer from a non-BCS school to a BCS power like Oklahoma, but Saunders didn’t like his role in the new spread offense installed by new Bulldogs coach Tim DeRuyter (who replaced the fired Pat Hill) and opted to bolt.

  • Yeah Metoyer and Stills are still big time WR's

Metoyer is going to be a beast. Believe they lost a TE too. Look for the TE from Cali, his name escapes me, that we didn't offer to have a big impact as well.

  • I could not have said this 15 years ago, but, OKC has been transformed. A night in Bricktown can meet any expectation - 5 star restaurants to bars to disco's and great hotels. And children friendly with the canal rides, or some time at the National Cowboy Hall of Fame or (unfortunately, but lessons to be learned/taught) the National Memorial for the bombing. And Norman, OK (about 20 miles south of OKC) after a game is good, and the stadium has been totally updated. You can now have a good time here.

Great point! I remember when Oklahoma was supposed to have a huge season in the last couple of years, then Sam Bradford got hurt in the first game of the year against BYU, missing most of the year (I wanna say he tried coming back against Texas, but got crushed again and missed the rest of the year) and their season was terrible

Disco's?? Are you European? Hate OK, Tulsa was the only place worth a damn last time I went through. Promised myself I would never step foot, drive a car, or fly into that state again.

  • Metoyer is completely unproven, he could quickly become a target for Jones but we could very well say the same thing about Davaris. I think the facts around Jones are not great, he struggled without Broyles and I look at his decision to stay as very different from that of Barkley. Jones can be rattled and I think they lost a few Olinwman so our pass rush in this game will be crucial. More so than USC, I think this is a game we can win.

  • Disco's - sorry do not know the current term, but quite a number of places that have live current rock dance music as opposed to all country & western.
