Posada vs Cashman

  • Knee jerk reaction to Posada wanting release from Yankees (per ESPN).

Cashman should have said "no problem", consider it done. $13 Million for a 39 year old catcher with Montero in the minors. As Michael Kay says "see Ya".

But upon reflection....come on Georgy....calm down. We love you. 5 time World Champion. Go home and sleep on it.

I say this as a Red Sox fan....Georgy deserves a break, good guy whose pride was hurt. The guy deserves special treatment as a very special Yankee.

  • If berine Williams can bat 9th so can jorge. No pity for an over paid, underperforming MLB star Jeter is next. Baseball needs to stop paying players for what they did 10 years ago.

  • The funny thing about is that baseball contracts are fully guaranteed, so if he is released he still gets his money unless a buyout is agreed upon.

  • That's just it. You have to pay him either way whether you cut him, bench him, or play him. That being said, you have to pick Montero a chance to at least hit big-league pitching. He has accomplished what he can at AAA and he is the future. Hip Hip Jorge is hitting below the Mendoza line and is done. Tell him to be a good teammate and support everyone and accept his role as a role player.

  • Montero came into spring training as the expected starter for 2011 and quickly played himself back into AAA. There were serious questions about his work ethic in camp.

The Yankee success since 1996 has been due in no small part to an array of switch hitters who make it difficult to work through that lineup. A contributing Posada makes the whole team better. Let this blow over.

    Jeter is the bigger concern.

Montero was not expected to be the starter. At best he had a shot to make the big league club as a backup but even that was a long shot because the Yankees prefer to have him playing every day in the minors to riding the pine in the majors.

Russel Martin was acquired in the off season to be the starter.

I am disappointed with the reports I am hearing about the way Posada conducted himself but IMO he has earned a lil' leeway so I am willing to forgive him for having a VERY bad day. As a Yankee fan I hope he can find the fountain of youth and help my team win.

LOL, just drop the k, i think. He had a great year last year but was slumping early this year. He has turned it around in the last week. he should be fine. They have some good young players that need to develop and then we need to KEEP them. i am still never going to forget francisco cabrera who singled in Sid Bream in game 7 of the 1992 NLCS. its been downhill ever since, lol. Francisco "freakin" Cabrera.

    Xman,

I'm going to stick with my original premise. Martin was brought in as an insurance policy for Montero and they had to cash it in right away. If Montero had a good spring he would have started and Martin would have been the backup. Cervelli would have been the odd man out. No way Posada was catching agian in any scenario.

I'm not trying to bust your chops George but you are 100% wrong. This is not my opinion....I am only talking about what the Yankees were saying publicly leading up to and during the Spring. If you have insider information that the general public was not privy to then I certainly defer to you.

  • George, the other thing I forgot to mention....Montero is not REALLY a top catching prospect yet. He is a heck of a HITTER who happens to play catcher,he is a hitting prospect.....he needs a ton of work which is why he never had a real shot of making the team.
