That's not true Lou from what I was told. The players are allowed to voluntarily seek out the coaches during the summer and study all they want in their offices it just can't be mandatory. This comes from a poster on TOS that is from within the football offices and has been verified. He can sit with Coach Martin in his office and watch film and go through the entire playbook. This person states that a LOT is learned about attention to detail, "want to" and leadership at this time leading into fall camp. The other thing that is mentioned is while the coaches can't be at the 7 on 7's Kelly can watch them as they are staged right underneath the balcony of his office.

Golson looks great when the lights come on. It's the nuances of the offense that he has struggled with and there is ample time for him to put in the work to get those things mastered. I understand why you think Kelly holds off and inserts him a bit later. Kelly knows he can beat both Navy and Purdue comfortably with Rees at the helm. After the debacle to start last season he has to ensure they take care of business in those first 2 games and potentially bring Golson along slowly as of this point. However we know what Rees brings to the game does not always pan out in game situations. For such a smart kid(he truly is a smart football kid) he consistently makes the same dumb mistakes and showed it again in the Blue/Gold game. It's one thing to make mistakes as all young QB's do and then progress but he has not progressed from those mistakes "When the Lights Go On!" I respect your opinion and even understand your thoughts but we are just going to have to agree to disagree on this one my friend!

Rees will start. Will quickly be benched against Navy.

Golson will finish having a huge year.

After about 200 or so posts, I finally (to my knowledge) received my first "minus 1"
for stating these realities:

1) the people's choice may not be ready to lead the team against Navy
because as of the Blue-Gold game, he does not have the ability to consistently
communicate the called plays to his offensive unit, set them in the correct
formation, get the snap count communicated to all--including his center and
man in motion--and audible, if necessary.

That seems to be fact (however disagreeable and against the grain of
popular opinion it might be). His Head Coach believes this fact to be true,
so unless he improves in this area, he won't start against Navy unless
BK changes his assessment or goes totally out of character and
plays Everett with these deficiencies unfixed or only partially fixed.

2) everyone and I mean everyone wants him to improve these defects
over the summer--problem is, the coaches can't touch him until August 5th.

3) people who have actually observed practice have said (and
published for public consumption) that as of yet, he does not
practice well. This is another area he must make up his mind
that he will improve--otherwise, he simply will not show, in
practice, the improvement Kelly is looking for to start him.

In another thread, I suggested and elaborated on a
voluntary, no coaches present, full "flag football scrimmages"
as opposed to 7 on 7s to give Everett, Andrew, TR and
Gunner, but primarily Everett, an opportunity to take
his "classroom" playbook, lab simulation work into a
more realistic setting. The suggestion did not receive
much comment and those that did deemed it impractical
but, that's o.k. too.

This thread is focused on who we want to start and
finish--and my choice, as is most others, is Golson.
But, I also recognize that me saying it does not make
it happen especially since the NCAA is not going to
provide us with numerous time outs to get plays set
and Kelly is acutely aware of Everett's need for more
"science."

But, as they say, "no good deed goes unpunished."

Thanx HOW2WIN (my new name for you). Its just that as much as I want, hope,
dream that Everett starts and finishes and we go 12-0, there are realities that
must be faced. Once faced, they can be dealt with----obviously, if we on this board
know and appreciate the dilemma we have at QB (even Lou's question and
our answers connote there is a dilemma), the coaches, players and Everett
know the situation even more so and are doing something about it. Our problem,
of course, is having seen what has happened over the last two years at the
QB spot, we are skeptical that our preferred solution will come to pass. And,
that's o.k. too, since we are fans and they are the coaches. Be that as it may,
if TR does start and things do not change dramatically for the better, the board
will implode and all the "spirits" in the world will not drown our collective anger.

My concern is that Kelly gets too wrapped up in winning rather than WHY we won. First two games are easy, and we can't afford to waste them on Rees. For whatever reason, it doesn't seem like things are clicking for Hendrix, and Golson has 4 years. Kelly takes a chance and starts him against Navy, sees that he does great, and sticks with him.

This is my hope. If reality is A, A, we'll all need AA.
