I hate to be the one to say this but.... Does the name Robinson mean anything. How much of the "pro-style" offense did he know? Hoke made it work.. Same should be done when talent presents itself, just EFFING make it work Kelly. Snap count audible and everything else will come with game time. Time to suck it up Kelly and just make it work!!! Gosh-darn it why are we still talking about this stuff. Dump it down make it easier and run the offense. If Golson throws a pick or gets a lose so what. Not exactly like Rees is a flamethrower with the instinct and athletic ability of RGIII

WeAreND76,
If he does that for the next four months then the NCAA will coming because there is not supposed to be any contact between the coaches and players during the upcoming months. We wouldn't want that. And no matter how much time you spend in the film room, the litmus test is what you do when the lights are on for real during the game. That can't be simulated in film rooms.
I'll be surprised if Golson isn't in the lineup at some point this year, but I have my doubts that he'll take the first snap. Of course, taking the first snap didn't do Dayne Crist much good last year.

We Are ND76,
I'll check on this further, but I will say nothing makes me yawn more than summer reports of how people are looking in 7-on-7 drills. Every year it's the same report: Lather. Rinse. Repeat. Cut. Copy. Paste. Only the year changes.
I don't actually think we're disagreeing about what direction the program must move at quarterback. I think we all just want to see it happen yesterday, and that's not how it always work. I almost wonder whether this year Rees will have Crist's role. I could even see Hendrix potentially starting as maybe an early safeguard, Golson gradually getting assimilated, and then Rees being maybe the fireman if an injury occurs, just like Crist briefly was against USC last year.
The greatest template I saw of QB development was Bill Walsh with Joe Montana. In Joe's rookie year (1979), first-year coach Walsh didn't play him behind Steve DeBerg during a 2-14 season. The next season (1980), he gradually inserted him in certain situations — like red zone — while still apprenticing and digesting everything. For example in an early season victory, Joe was 4 of 6, with two TDs, specific plays he mastered. Then there was a game at Dallas that year where they lost 59-14 — and Walsh didn't even put him in. He didn't want to rattle him too much. By the end of the season, he gave him more to handle during a 6-10 season, let him run the offense, and started him in the final several games.
The next season, Joe took over and the 49ers won the first of their four Super Bowls. Walsh didn't overwhelm him, but instead gradually brought him into the mix. That's what I'm looking more toward with Golson, rather than just tossing him the keys and letting him drive into the major thoroughfares when he is just now studying for his driver's test.
I always respect your thoughts and observations.
