  • king kelly is pretty good at appearing to be just short of a mental meltdown while "coaching up" some of the talent we have. he sure as hell had better have a grip on who can take that and positively respond to it vs breaking a kid's spirit and further seeding doubt in his head about himself. imo, kelly has not shown to be on an even keel on the sidelines, and so far this is reflected on the team's up and down play.

Run the ball. Stop the run. You win, or lose, up front.

This is the most over-rated issue. I mean no disrespect by that statement but come on. Coach Kelly is a fine coach. Had he won 10 games last year this would be a non-issue. Watching Rees and Crist make the same mistakes over and over and over and over, made me crazy so I kind of get it. The mentally tough guys have responded to his style, most players have improved, Robert Hughes, Brian Smith, Bennett, Colinsworth....we tend to focus on the few that didn't, so be it.

I recall Holtz dragging Ricky Watters off the field by his face mask, and several outburst. Given his success nobody cares.
Mike Gundy at OK State, Will Muschamp, Nick Saban, Les Miles, Urban Meyer, Chip Kelly, Gary Patterson all have been seen acting less than ideal on the sidelines, but they all get a pass because they win (sans Muscham on the winning part).

No down-vote please - thank you! No down-vote por favor, gracias ! Gringo Mafia ~ amigo el número cuatro

  • I dont disagree with it being overrated.

But I guess what I yearn for is grace under pressure, steadiness in the midst of the storm. BK simply isn't that way naturally. Probably never will be. Sure, Holtz had his outbursts, but NEVER HAD ONE after a mistake while the issue of the game was still in doubt. Of anything, he would be clapping as his team trotted off the field after being stopped on 4th and short or after a key fumble.

Id like to see BK start small with applause and helmet pats like this after we hold the opposing team to 3 after a 65 yard drive. Or applaud the decision to throw the ball OOB on 3rd and 6 if they play just wasnt there.

To me, Brady Hoke has the best sideline demeanor of all our opponents coaches. Delegates well, stays as cool as a cucumber, doesnt meddle unless its a pick me up. UM scares the daylights out of me for this reason.

  • Yes, they do, UNDER HOKE.

His FG kicker was a player of mine in HS. I actually worry he might line up to beat us with a kick and I'll be borderline torn. But anyway, It's night and day under BH as opposed to RRod according to him. Players LOVE him, recruits are being lured because of him. Im just saying that I can see why.

    Yes, they do, UNDER HOKE.

I know that Hoke will bring in talent, and he will be successful, but I think that there is going to be a limit to the amount of success he has. When a HC gives so much power to the OC in the game, it is just a matter of time until things start to unravel.

Their success came from the fact that they had the best athlete in CFB on the offensive side of the ball, and they had 'untapped' talent on the D. That defensive talent has moved on, and Denard is going to be going it even more solo than he did last year. Even without starting with Alabama, this is going to be an interesting year to see what type of coach Hoke is.

Now... I respect Hoke as a 'molder of men' in the framework of Carr and Schembeckler. He will have quality men on that team, with good fundamentals and solid workmanship... of that, I have no question.
