It has been a while since I posted my ramblings, usually reserved for post game comments.
I know many of you follow it very closely throughout the process, maybe even more than the ND coaching staff. I tend to watch tape and learn about recruits that are no longer recruits but actual members of the team.
So it takes me a little time after signing day to get to know anything about these guys. I waited this year until my B&G arrived (sitting beside the computer now). I read about each kid and then watch the tape. (B&G staffer does a great job covering the recruits).
I don't think you can really know how good a class is until we are talking about how good they were. However from looking at the tape and reading the take of the staff, the coaching staff has done a great job of bring in great group of athletes that fit the program and should help with continuation in making the University of Notre Dame an elite program for years to come.
Manti was the victim of a hoax and will live with the hurt and embarrassment the rest of his life. He will deal with the loss of his ability to trust and believe in people. The wise among us will also learn from his mistakes here and by his opening up and sharing it with us we hopefully will grow.
Hopefully we will have compassion for him and others that are deceived in the quest to meet the one come need we all share: being loved.
This is where I get on my soap box and tell the media and fans that athletes truly owe you nothing; not one comment; not one moment of their time.
They do not compete for you, they do not train for you and when they were little kids dreaming the dream you were never a consideration or a thought. (I know this because after 42 years of training and competing not one fan or media person entered my mind in the midst of training, competing or dreaming the dream.) ok so maybe we all wanted the crowd to go wild.
The fact that they achieved a level of fame because they were good at what they did does not change that.
Society thinks that because they pay the price of ticket means they are owed. BULLSH!T.
That is no more true of them than it is of you owing me an explanation of what you did last night because I bought product your company produces.
While it probably better for them that they honestly share somethings it is not an obligation. We as people need to understand we are not owed anything.
And mister sports writer that is not wrong.
The fact that the athletes open up their lives to you is not a right of yours it is a privilege of yours, of ours.
THE 2013 SEASON
It is nice to go into the season with reasonable expectation that Notre Dame should be a good football team and compete for BCS bowl and a possible championship.
While the championship game was huge disappointment, we did see that Golson to Daniels gives all some reason to smile and be excited about.
We are just a few weeks from spring ball and a view of much the 2013 squad.
