  • All I can say is that this Program is a strong one and headed in the right direction. The team itself will take some time. The hiring of Ernest Jones and the position Kelly created for Coach Jones was perhaps the greatest thing done here is many, many years. Even much more so than the Training Table.

    ND is building itself an rock-solid foundation which is integrated into the the school's academia and faculty, the community, spirituality, its students, and of course its physical and mental development of the team. The team itself seems as close and united a team can be in Spring, and the systems Kelly and Diaco are using are good ones for the types of players ND can consistently recruit.

    I was very, very impressed.

  • Thanks for the report IC. It seems like this staff has changed the culture from where it was under Willingham and Weis.

    You have some high praise for Ernest Jones. I think thats very interesting. If its possible, can you elaborate some more on that? Thanks.

  • Jones absolutely blew me away. The role he is taking with the team is something that does not exist in D1, but believe me, you will start seeing copycats now. He is a coach/chaplan/friend/confidante/liaison/community outreach worker/etc. for the players to the coaches, the school, the faculty, the community etc. This is 100% Kelly understanding what is unique about Notre Dame and how the players need to connect with it more and get the full experience and contribute their best to the experience. Jones will make these kids better and they are so lucky to have him (and Kelly for creating this role). It will make the team closer and will win more. Jones will blow away recruit parents and no doubt is a big reason why we have 10 commits already.

    Exactly what is Jones allowed to do with recuits? I thought he wouldn't be able to talk with recruits.
