SEC May Save Playoff Spot For ND

  • SEC commiosner Mike Slive and SEC coaches, are all in favor of having top 4 teams in playoffs without conference championship ties. With Slive being probably the most powerful commisioner in NCAA along with Swarbrick and Pac-12 commisioner Larry Scott all on the same boat as of now, it looks like ND might still have a seat at the table. Big 10 commisioner Jim Delaney seems to be the major opponent of a playoff without conference ties. So for now it looks like our independence is safe.

  • Big 10, Pac 12 and ACC are against it. Big 12 is on the fence. There will be some sort of compromise. I think after all this they will settle on a Plus One which brings about the smallest amount of change.

SEC is against plus one. Pac 12 commish wants playoff games to be held at home for seeds 1 and 2 to make it more important during the season. Big 12 has sided with SEC in case anyone missed that, and the ACC and Big East hold the least ammount of sway among the big 6, so I think we will see the BCS rankings stay the way they are and the top 4 teams will enter playoff, conference be damned.

  • And, it seems, ND will have an equal shot at getting to the top 4 as anyone.

Part of the Conference Championship driver is to improve the competition level for the teams, ie., the strength of schedule. Ok, ok, $ is the biggest driver, but stay with me for a second.

With ND's strong schedule -- don't need a conference championship to showcase our team and improve shot at eligibility. In other words, earn our right to be rated up in the final 4.

Just trying to look at this from another angle.

While I appreciate the input, I'm not sure I follow what you're saying. I know I'm kinda slow so could you clarify for for me please? Thanks
