  • Notre Dame is on spring break right now, so the campus is pretty empty. It wouldn't be a complete surprise if he has another change of heart. Chris Stewart did after a little talk with his family in 2007.

It was a bit head-scratching to me that Kiel would leave prior to spring ball. Why not give it what you have for those 15 practices and see where you stand then?

Spring practice begins next Wednesday, so I imagine it will all crystallize by then. However, Brian Kelly has stated in the past that it's hard to give reps to more than four quarterbacks. If Kiel stays, who becomes the odd-man out?

  • If gunner stays I think it will be a tough spring with all the transfer talk...

J Sapp-a-docious, from a player standpoint how would you/teammates react and/or feel about a young qb talking transfer then tentatively staying through the spring? I can't imagine that inspires trust and unity. Maybe if he says he wavered and is now all in but this maybe-maybe not crap cant be good.

Then again I've been wrong quite a bit and have never been part of a D1 football team so I'm totally talking out my @$$ right now

Lou, I think you mean, "If Kiel STAYS, who becomes the odd-man out?"

It is for this reason that I don't want Kiel to stay. The kid obviously has the flake gene, so if he doesn't leave now, he'll leave later. So let's not cause any tension by having 5 QBs on the roster. Let him go and there are 4 this Spring, 4 for the 2013 season, and 4 for the 2014 season by returning Hendrix and adding a recruit.

"Flake gene"? Now you're insulting his entire family? Come on!! The Kid is 18!! He spent 1/2 of his 17th year of life on this planet away from home trying to live up to his hype at the most celebrated University in the history of college football. It is up to the coaches to guide him through this with an honest evaluation of his ability. Encourage him to compete this spring and sit down for a frank talk after.

Maybe not his parents. The gene could have skipped a generation. Would have to meet the grand parents to be sure.

Yes, the kid is a flake.

    Yes, it has been head-scratching.

What if Golson goes out the first day and breaks a wrist or tears his ACL? Kiehl is then in the mix with two guys, who, despite having experience, have been deemed "backups."

The same two guys Golson jumped last year. It's been done.
