  • I truly hope the Irish can keep their independent status in football and I think that could be possible if the new playoff format is going to strees a teams strength of schedule.Other teams will find it more attractive to play ND.because it will strengthen their individual schedule. It will force teams like tatoo university,Florida,Penn State etc.to toughen their schedules.Instead of playing some of their usual lightweights Florida could be willing to play ND.

  • I still think the times will end ND's independence unless we are no longer interested in playing for national titles .

  • We are in very, very good hands.

  • I like the way things are going for ND. We've been pathetic (for our standards) over the course of 15 years, not even competing for a NC and we're still part of the conversation, Not only that, the way Kelly is recruiting, and our competitive schedule, I think we're independent for decades to come...

I agree, and what will make his job much easier is WINNING in football
and most of the other sports. That is the challenge because ND cannot
always recruit the very best, but I do agree that BK and staff are doing a very good job now. There will be bumps in the road ahead but ND needs to stay the course.

swarbrick is first and foremost a business man with a very, very keen eye on the bottom line. he will do right for ND, but he will also "follow the money" or probably wind up losing his job. we are indeed lucky to have him, but make no doubt that generating and securing the best income resources are ingrained in his dna......

IMHO the #1 determination of independence will be the balance for NBC sports wanting to grow their brand and compete vs the ratings for ND games. If the Irish win, ratings will rise, NBC Sports will continue to shell out the cash and ND can then stay independent.
