Six awards including Maxwell. Wow! Maybe Heisman is possible, it is certainly deserving. Any way you look at it, Manti is the definition of a class act.
Leadership, talent, brains and down to earth.

Silly story but important to me. In 99 or 2000 I was in a charity golf tournament in Indianapolis. The party was in the RCA dome and Ara was the special award participant. At the time my daughter was a sophomore at ND and I was really, really deep into ND and the football program. In my group was Fred Hoiberg, the Mayor of Ames (Iowa State) and future Bulls and Pacers player. He insisted I met Ara and introduced me. When Ara heard my kid was at ND and all of us were from Ireland, he invited me to sit at his table where we spent about ten minutes chatting. As it happened his wife and my kid have the same name and his wife happened to be in Ireland vacationing at that very moment.
Anyway, I thanked him and took my leave. 3 or 4 hours later at the end of the event Ara was being driven across the packed dome in a golf cart, mobbed by the crowd. He spotted me in the crowd and shouted "hey Irish" and beckoned me to come to his cart where he shook my hand and wished me well. I will never, ever forget the moment.
Class act to beat all class acts!

Thanks, its on the Ara thread now. I spend most of my life wondering if the famous folk we see on the screen are class acts or assholes. I know for a fact Ara is a class act, no pretense just a good man. ND is lucky to call him one of our own.

Congrats to Manti again! It was a big ND flavor during the award show. Now hopefully Manti tops it off Saturday by winning the Heisman.

Manti is already the "Audie Murphy" of football [for the younger 3 generations - the most decorated US soldier of WWII]. I hope that he tops it off with the Heisman. And, I am almost opposite of Coach Clancy - I am feeling better about his chances.
