I like his "family" remarks. In every family, harsh words are uttered that can't be taken back, but sometimes they lead to some important introspection and self-analysis. Maybe this brought some critical stuff to the surface. Te'o's a leader and warrior out there. I think he and the entire team play strong the rest of the way.

Probably some of both. Maybe he was just frustrated, has to spend too much time with the media, and just let something slip out that he wished he hadn't. Or, in a very conscious manner, he figured, let's run this one up the pole, and see what kind of reaction it elicits. I'm sure of only one thing -- the reaction he was concerned about wasn't from scribes, talking heads and fans. If the team keeps performing like it did against Navy, he'll sleep very comfortably with the knowledge that many think him a loudmouth jerk.
