The Carrot Patch - a call for posting reinforcements

  • Back in the early days of one of the forerunners of this web site (maybe four owners, ago), someone, and I'm betting it was IFR, coined the term "carrot patch," to describe the place at the top of the page where they listed everyone who was signed on to the site, including those who never post. Periodically, there would be a shout out to all those folks in the "carrot patch," to come on down, and post. So, that's what I'm doing, even though our carrot patch is more or less invisible.

Just within the past week, I've seen quite a few folks jumping in with their first post, or not having more than 5 or 6. That's great. The more, the merrier on this bus. Now, I understand the reluctance to join the fray, especially when folks are a little testy after a disappointing loss (yes, even I had a bit of a meltdown last night responding to a post that really pushed my button), but not to worry. As many have said, it's like a big family here, and what family doesn't squabble? The other thing is that, from the outside, it may look like there are cliques, here, or just the same people only talking to each other. That may happen, but it's human nature to gravitate toward familiarity. It really doesn't mean that we won't talk to anyone else. In fact, some of us want to talk to someone else. But, I understand the wariness. Everyone here had to post that first time. And often, when you do, you'll see that post just sit there without a response. Well, then you just post a second time, or a third. You'll get a response, and you don't have to say something profound, or something goofy to get it. Just say, "Go Irish, kick Navy's butts." Someone like Irish Bob, IrishYoung or Hodges will notice. You can count on it.

So, if you're out there in BGI's land of obscurity, it's time to show your face. Not everyone's will be as good looking as mine (see pic, above left), but hop aboard. Sooner or later, this Notre Dame train will reach the Promised Land, and you don't want to be just waving from the platform when it does.

Can you ask a pig if his glass is half full?

Experts in the UK have shown for the first time that a pig's mood mirrors how content he is, highlighting that pigs are capable of complex emotions which are directly influenced by their living conditions.

  • Great post Ham. I say jump right in a start posting away. Based on some of the comments around here lately, your posts will probably be an immediate upgrade.

On a sidenote, if Ham has more meltdowns does that mean we all get bacon? I'm hungry.

  • Cheers to that! Thanks for the post Ham. You inspired me to investigate why I could not reply to any posts, since I've been trying to reply to some of the emotion driven bridge jumping that has been going on around here. Turns out I never activated my account... Regardless, watch out pessimistic posters because a bit more optimism has arrived.

Love it, DeSero! Welcome aboard. The optimism train can always hold more passengers.

Great post, Ham. Perfect timing, too. New blood would do us all well these days.
