Each and every year that I have followed college football there are and have been commitments, de-commitments and re-commitments. As per usual there is the questioning of the kids loyalties, the efforts of the recruiting coaches, the doubt and uncertainties that come with both. One thing I think we all forget is that these kids are 18. We have to look back to when we were 18. When I was that age, I wanted to be accepted, to fit in, to have people cheer me on, to have friend and new acquaintances throw their attention at me. I was a fickle person when it came to wanting that attention. These guys go to a school campus to check it out. What happens when they are there? They are lavished with attention by the current athletes, incoming athletes, and other students trying to woo them to the school. Say I go to am looking for a job, and have a year before I need to take it. I go in say April to say "Company X". This company is all over me, they want me , they tell me how many perks I'll get and how wonderful it will be. I'm stoked. I cant wait to get started. I tell them, "Sweet, next February I'm yours". For the next 6 months I am all about them, but time fades the memory of how great they wooed me. Come December, Team Y says, hey, come work for us, and they lavish me with great words of praise, the employees give me lots of attention. They bad mouth Company X, I am having a hard time remembering how good it felt at Company X. Someone calls me and says "company x is talking trash about you talking to company y", and guess what? I now have bad feelings about company x and think that maybe company Y was right and even though I was still considering company X , I now am no longer thinking about them. Do you see my point? These are kids, they have attention thrown at them, they are confused. Maybe they are what we want, maybe they aren't. However we have to remember to not bash them because of their change. It is what it is. Feeling let down, is how I get sometimes, but I refuse to bash a kid for a change of heart.
