  • Wow, our guy was drinking at a private residence and the police go ape-sh!t.
    Other teams have players arrested for actually doing more serious offenses.

    I think "simple possession" is for personal use, as opposed to for distribution.

    If it's felony possession w/ intent to deliver. That is a complicated possession.

    Have you seen Pineapple Express? Car chases, mega-explosions, and pretty severe bodily harm. Oh, and James Franco in crazy pants. That's complicated possession.

    No! 1. Although Clemson is a fine school, it doesn't have the cache of Notre Dame. 2. Our guy beat up a cop, was an under-age drinker, and refused to stop when instructed. 3. Watkins had a 'personal sized' possession of marijuana, which at ND would be a big (McAlarney) problem, but at Clemson, it remains to be seen. Regardless, if you are ESPN, or any national news outlet, a starting QB, at ND, wrestling a cop, Trumps a Clemson wideout with a pocketful of dreams. Notre Dame invites the spotlight and the microscope. What happens to Tommy at this point, will be incorporated into recruiting, for better or for worse.

    I tend to agree with this, as bad as it makes me feel.

    Rees made some very poor decisions that night, and I think he should pay the piper. ND brings attention and stardom to it's student athletes. It also brings the hurt down when they mess up. I think they should take the bad with the good.

    This isn't something Rees can't recover from. Let's hope he learned a very valuable lesson from this, and I'm certain he'll be reminded of it for some time to come.

  • For all the bad press, and Please, refer to Lou Somogyi's piece above, if Tommy takes his punishment, then comes back and says it is important to him to finish at ND, then he will be a lifelong hero, just as Ross Browner is. His level of success on the field will become secondary. I like Tommy Ress because (in MHO) he has already overachieved on the field. What he accomplished in 2010 was beyond any reasonable expectation as measured by his recruiting status. It isn't fair to measure any player by what he isn't. You can only deal with what was expected. Nobody could have dreamed of a freshman Tommy Rees beating a top 10 Utah, followed by a win in Yankee Stadium, defeating USC in the LA Coliseum, and then the Miami Hurricanes in a Bowl game! He is an important brick in building Kelly's foundation.

    Schedule 2 non-narcotic pills are Adderall for those interested (pain meds like Oxycontin would be narcotic and the stimulants are the only other scheduled II pills). So weed and Adderall possession, which IMO is MLB crime compared to the AAA of underage drinking.

    Let's run the scandal right up to the top on this one: if he didn't have a prescription for those in his name it's already a crime to have them or acquire them without an Rx. To have them without an Rx means he's either a speed freak who takes them recreationally, or using them for an edge during finals. A "student athlete" taking a shortcut and using study buddy pills that he illegally bought to pass the imitation classes he takes? Now that's just an NCAA scandal right there!! (and we all know that doesn't go on at all colleges these days just as much as underage drinking does) no

  • Yea too bad Rees does not have half the athletic ability as Watkins. Shame for both these kids.
