Notre Dame alumni Tim Brown and Jerome "The Bus" Bettis were among the 15 people who made the cut from the 26 semi-finalists to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2012. The Hall’s selection committee meets in Indianapolis next month. A finalist must receive 80 percent of the vote to be selected. Between four and seven enshrinees will be announced the day before the Super Bowl on Feb. 5, and inducted in August in the Hall’s 50th class.
These are the 15 modern-era finalists:
Owner: Former San Francisco 49ers owner Edward DeBartolo, Jr., another ND alum
Coach: Bill Parcells
Running backs: Bettis and Curtis Martin (Bettis ranks fifth on the NFL rushing list with 13,662 yards and Martin is fourth with 14,101 yards) .
Receivers: Brown, Cris Carter and Andre Reed.
Offensive line: guard Will Shields, center Dermontti Dawson, and offensive tackle Willie Roaf
Defensive line: Chris Doleman, Kevin Greene, Charles Haley and Cortez Kennedy,
Defensive back: Aeneas Williams
There were also two senior nominees, which is a separate category: former Steelers defensive back Jack Butler and former Lions guard Dick Stanfel.
