That's right...panic and think of the worst-case scenario! I just read a commentary over at ISD and they feel that this was not initiated by Alford. They heard that he came highly recommended and he is part of a long list of candidates the Packers are considering. As of today, he hasn't even been offered the job.

Just relax...

I hope I'm wrong, but this feels like somebody on the ND football administration side seeded this story ahead of an announcement so the restless natives (i.e. the lunatics on the ND message boards) don't lose their grip if blindsided by the news.

BG being a more sane, temperate board than TOS, it makes sense that you read it here first.

Again, everything I've written could be the stream of consciousness of a ND neurotic, but maybe not.

BTW, it would be a good move for Alford to go to the NFL for a couple of years and then come back to college prepped and ready to go as an OC. Anymore, coaches having experience in the league is a great tool on the recruiting trail and we already know Alford can recruit.

If this happens it is not good...one of our best recruiters...I thought the goal of ND was to have stability in the coach staff..I guess this goal is gone along with a bunch of other goals...we`need elite coaches to get elite players..After the Jan. disaster I would have hoped for a quite Feb.

There is simply NO WAY we can lose this guy. He is as important to us as BK is. He is the most efficient and tireless coach. His recruiting efforts pay off with HUGE dividends. He needs a solid raise to keep him smiling. I can see him getting a head coaching position in college someday. Brian Kelly and the University of Notre Dame MUST keep him and make it a priority. He is irreplaceable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Notre Dame's number one problem over the years is not admissions. It has always been underpaying the assistant coaches. That was also the reason for the high turnover when Lou Holtz was the head coach.

And it's Green Bay to boot. Really would hurt but at least ND would have time to find another good recruiter. Hope he stays.

I have no idea what the issues might be with Coach Alfort , but perhaps we should be concerned about the "arms race" in college athletics regarding elaborate facilities, and sky rocking salaries. Many years ago it was almost a rule that the head football coach should not make more money than the university president. That principle was probably abandoned 20 years ago. Recent articles show that Saban at Alabama clears 5 million a year, followed by head coaches at Auburn and LSU at 4 million plus . More recently, football coordinators started to make a million dollars a year (Weiss at Florida). Men's basketball coaches I believe top out near 3 million a year. Where does this lead ND now (Alford ?) , and into the future ? I strongly suggest that Blue and Gold do major research on this important issue !!!!
