Top Uncommitted Prospects for Notre Dame in 2013

who knows? He just scheduled 2 visits one to Louisville and the other to tOSU. Believe Wiltfong said he thinks Quick has cooled on us. Saw that TE Mike Heureman visited Miami recently and will be attending their spring game the 19th. Think we are a longshot to land him. Hopefully I'm wrong.

While I would LOVE to add Quick, he has shown minimal interest. Heuerman is a tough kid to read; one day he loves Notre Dame and the next you are almost certain he's going to O$U or Miami.. I don't know.. Maybe.. Maybe not.. shrug

I'm talking on the outside and Neal could be a head case well just have to see

I'm a big fan of Justin Ferguson too.. ESPN had him higher rated than DG.

jwood that is true. Also Robinson could grow into a tight end. I know we need to recruit one, but I don't feel the need as much as others. With Nicklas moving over we have 3 good ones next year and potential of a recruit to easily grow into another.

I agree Benny. Corey Robinson could move into the TE role as could Travis Johnson out of Tampa Jesuit if we can land him.. There seem to be a lot of big WR's that lack the breakaway speed of a WR, but add a physical demension that could fit really well into the split-out TE we need in our spread.

That said, Niklas is a beast. I don't care what position he is at, he is going to be very good for us. I am really stoked to see what he brings to the position for us.

Thanks, I thought the same thing about huerman but I saw that Miami just got a commitment from a tight end today, so hopefully that helps our chances. Since we missed out on Brennan and huerman doesn't look good, who are our other options at tight end?

I watched TE Hunter Henry's film last night and came away very impressed. Actually like his film more than Heureman who blew me away with his blocking skills. Henry plays in a very complex offense which moves him around the field, much like ND would, he's smart, finds open space, and makes plays. Hopefully we go after him hard should we lose out on Heureman.

  • Nice to see a constructive thread full of great commentary!

I do prose one question: Why are we assuming Corey is going to undergo a growth spurt similar to his father and be a monster tight end? I don't think the staff makes this assumption. And while no one here would certainly complain (myself included) if this came to pass, I'd wager a guess the staff thinks a "moderate" growth is in order, making Corey a projected Mike Floyd type big-bodied W receiver.

Because his pops grew 6 inches or more after arriving at Navy. Plus a lot of folks seem to think we needed 2 TE's that was before Niklas moved to TE. Assuming we are only taking 3 WR which has been suggested would love to see Robinson moved to TE with Oswusla, Robinson, and Bailey or another WR that is a slot receiver.

I understand your reasoning. Merely stating that the staff has to think he's not guaranteed the same growth spurt as his father. Knowing his Dad, they were willing to take a raw young athlete at receiver, knowing full well he had growth potential. I'd love for him to grow into a monster TE, but I am merely being pragmatic and pointing out that the staff probably is as well.

Edit: And as a result of this, the staff is likely not considering him a TE long term roster management wise; thus not effecting this class in that respect much (at the TE position).

I can agree somewhat with that Andy, but he is already 6'4"-200 and running a 4.6-4.7 40. When he gets to Notre Dame, I would be willing to bet he'll be closer to 6'5 1/2" (a modest growth spurt, nothing like his dad's) and 215 lbs. At that size, he can definitely still play WR, but we need him to drop his 40 by at least a tenth. Once he gets into ND's lifting program, I would expect him to end his first year at Notre Dame at close to 240 lbs.. 6'6"-240? That's a big WR.. If he can be at a 4.55, that's a scary TE.. JMO. He may not factor into the TE count for this year, but we still have Eifert, Koyack, Niklas, and Co. this year. If he grows and gets bigger like I expect, he will be playing TE in 2014 once Koyack and Niklas are upperclassmen and we need a TE. A true TE in the Class of 2013 would be good, but it's far from a necessity just because the odds are he won't see the field once in 2013 anyways.

  • All player rankings have been updated. There were some big movers, both up and down. If anyone thinks someone belongs on this board and they aren’t here, please let me know. Thanks.

    Removed:

    #72 – Aaron Bailey – Dual-Threat QB – 6’2”/210 – Bolingbrook, IL – Offered

-While he is an exceptional athlete, I think he is also a very good QB. He’s a good kid from the North so that helps our cause seeing as how we don’t have to worry about weather-shock on a visit. He has a growing list of offers that is far from being completed, but right now it looks to be a bunch of Midwest teams that run traidition power offenses and then Ohio St. and Notre Dame that run the spread offense that would better suit his skill-set. While I figured he was a O$U lean, they seem to have a handful of QB's higher on their wish list whereas I think he's in ND's top couple QB options.

Update: With the commitment of Zaire, I can’t imagine we are recruiting him too hard any more unless Zaire should decommit, which based on all the recruiting he is doing for us I don’t think is even an option.

    #103 -- Cody Thomas -- QB -- 6'5"/210 -- Colleyville, TX -- Offered

"Getting the offer was a big deal," the four-star QB told BlueandGold.com. "Notre Dame is legendary in college football. "I'm going to talk to my parents about visiting." -- To me, this can't be a bad thing. Has prototypical size and is a bit like Gunner Kiel in that he is a 'pocket-passer', but he has more mobility than you'd expect. Great offer.

Update: With Zaire on board, I think he’s pretty much dead in the water. I would keep chatting to him, especially since I think Bailey is not serious about ND and it would be nice to have something on the backburner, but I don’t think it makes sense to leave him on the ‘Top Targets’.

    #118 – Derrick Green – RB – 6’/215 – Richmond, VA -- No Offer

    #208 -- Wyatt Teller -- DE/OLB -- 6'5"/250 -- Bealeton, VA -- Offered

-Big, talented prospect that may start at the OLB position, but his future is ultimately with his hand in the dirt as he hits the weights at gains weight. Just as I have said already, he is very similar to Elijah Daniel size-wise, and skillset-wise, except Daniel may be a bit quicker and more physical.. Maybe.. I like the kid a lot and saying that ND is legendary upon receiving his offer yesterday can only help us..

Update: It seems to be that he is going to be committing to a VA school, or at least a Southern school. Unless we pull off something huge, it's not happening.

    #215 – Brett Wade – ILB – 6’1”/215 – Kennedale, TX – No Offer

  • Anything on jordon sherit?

  • Removed:

    #92 – Ahmad Fulwood – WR – 6’4”/200 – Jacksonville, FL -- Committed to Florida

-Fulwood could very well be a higher priority than many of the top fifty prospects just because of his elite size. At 6’4”, he has elite ball-skill abilities and has already said he wants to get out of Florida which can only help us. While James Quick would be a very, very good WR for us in the slot, I think I would prefer Fulwood just because of the mismatches he causes. With him playing for ND, we could slide bigger, yet still very fast WR’s like Chris Brown inside and be a matchup nightmare for all of our opponents. Play zone, Gunner (or whatever QB is starting) can pick apart the zone or run; play man and our WR’s elite speed and size will win-out.

    NR/CB #34 Tre Bell -- CB -- 5'11"/175 -- Jersey City, NJ -- Committed to Florida

    #158 -- Jordan Sherit -- DE/OLB -- 6'4"/230 -- Tampa, FL -- Offered

-Jordan Sherit is a kid I really like. I've had the opportunity to watch him play in person a few times and he is impressive. He is a high-motor player and gets off the edge in a hurry. I don't know if it's because of the Tampa connection or because I haven't gotten to watch a ton of others live, but he reminds me of 2011 signee Anthony Chickillo, except may be a step faster.

    NR/#14 DE Josh Augusta -- DE -- 6'5"/280 -- Peoria, IL -- Offered

Henry is a tougher pull and ND is in a very very good spot with Heuerman. I know people are worried about his brother and OSU but the kid knows where he would be best suited to play and was very impressed with the way ND utilizes the TE's especially witnessing the emphasis on Eifert this season.

My biggest concern is not Ohio State, it's Miami. I feel if anyone is going to take him from Notre Dame, it's the U. They have a history with TE's as well and it's closer to home.. I don't know how much pull distance will have or how many friends he has there, but I think it's something to keep an eye on.
