Top Uncommitted Prospects for Notre Dame in 2013

  • NDGuyinFL said...

    Notes:

I had no idea that Doug Randolph has been sliding. Currently, Virginia prospect Matt Rolin has a 94-grade as the #134 player in the country and #10 OLB and Doug Randolph has a 91-grade as the #234 player in the country and the #16 OLB.

    Players to Consider:

    #20 – Kendall Fuller – CB – 6’/175 – Olney, MD – Offered

    #69 – Jalen Ramsey – CB – 6’/185 – Brentwood, TN – No Offer

    #142 – Frank Herron – DE/OLB – 6’5”/245 – Memphis, TN -- Offered

    #149 – Johnathan Alston – ATH – 6’3”/200 – Bunn, NC – Offered

    #160 – David Williams – RB -- 6’1”/190 -- Philadelphia, PA – Offered

    NR/ ##19 DT – Maurice Hurst Jr. – DT – 6’2”/280 – Westwood, MA – No Offer

    NR/#23 ATH – Torii Hunter Jr. – ATH – 6’2”/170 – Prosper, TX -- Offered

    NR/#37 OLB – Danny Mattingly – OLB – 6’4”/215 – Spokane, WA – No Offer

    NR/#41 SDE -- Ebenezer Ogundecko – DE/OLB – 6’4”/240 – Brooklyn, NY – No Offer

-This is a kid I like a lot and someone I believe could fit that rush OLB position for us. He shows good pursuit, good speed for his size, and a good motor. He has ideal size to fit into our 3-4 system and as a NY kid, would give us a great fit opposite our other Brooklyn LB (Ishaq.) -- See Video

Fuller named a top 6 and we missed the cut. I'm shocked we haven't offer Ramsey yet. Unfortunately Herron hasn't showed much interest in us yet.

Thanks on the Fuller info. I don't know how a top-5 CB doesn't have an offer from us.. And still a lot of time to go my dude..

  • Fuller has never had any interest that was not surprising in the least

  • I haven't heard much if anything about Jalen Ramsey. I see he's the #7 CB prospect on 247 and the #7 ATH prospect on Rivals. He fits the size profile for CB at 6' 186 lbs. Maybe with both 4*'s Kinlaw and Butler in the fold already they are targeting some guys that are higher on the board for that final 1 or potentially 2 CB spots.

  • I don't know about that.. I know the staff was still going hard after Tre' Bell before he committed to UF and Ramsey is by far the superior CB IMO. I'm not sure why he hasn't been recruited harder, but hopefully that changes this summer and fall.

  • Cole Luke out of Arizona is the #1 CB recruit on my radar and he is favoring Oklahoma right now, but has an offer from ND. I hope Elliot gets him on campus sometime soon to see what the Irish are all about. Does anyone know anything on Luke?

Not much more than you stated. Alex Anzalone has decided to visit tOSU spring game, no surprise here. Think it's safe to say that he will not be choosing us. I've noticed Jaylon Smith must have struck up a friendship with Vonn Bell while visiting tOSU. They've tweeted a few things the last few days and Smith doesn't tweet much. Don't like this at all, seeing how Bell really liked his tOSU visit and didn't give us the time of day on his visit.

I'm not worried about Jaylon Smith

The Anzalone news sucks because I really wanted him in this class. But a guy that posts on TOS that is from the ND football offices made some less than flattering comments about Urban Meyer in regards to Anzalone. Talking about him promising things no coach should promise from an ethical standpoint and finding it rich that the same coach was openly criticizing these very same things on air at ESPN for the year he was out for his make believe illness

The Jaylon Smith news definitely isn't good for the Irish. While there is still a lot then can happen, it is unsettling that he has seemed to be favoring the Irish and now this.. Fingers crossed.

  • I don't think that we need to worry too much about Jaylon Smith. IMO Bell is more of an SEC guy than an OSU guy and it also seems as though Smith and Onwualu have been in touch since the Adidas Invitational. I believe Onwualu was quoted saying he thinks Smith will come to ND and Steve Wiltfong has said he thinks ND leads.

  • Jaylon Smith is the one I want more than anyone (much like most of you i'm sure), so of course any talk about him will make a guy a bit nervous, but at the end of the day you have to hope that our staff is busting their moones to make sure he's Irish.. That's all we can do. Little talks from Manti will go a long way too I think.

With Steve Elmer already in the fold, Jaylon Smith is definitely the one "must get" prospect in this class. You have to lock down a rare 5* talent in Indiana

Absolutely! I think our top targets need to be Smith, Ryan Green, and one of the elite CB's or DL (Hargreaves/Alexander or Latham/Vanderdoes (since I already think Rochell is ours))

Rochelle and Sherrit are 2 elite DL that we should be able to add to this class. We started off strong at CB with 2 solid 4*'s in Kinlaw and Butler, great profile fits. Now we can cherry pick the elite CB or 2 if possible to top off the CB recruiting and make up for last year's mess that developed at the position due to some weird circumstances. I'm not quite sure though which elite CB prospect we have a good chance with: Hargreaves and Alexander would be surprises, Cole Luke lists Oklahoma as his favorite, Antwaun Davis(from Austin) received his offer from Texas so it's already amazing that we got him to visit. Long way to go...not to mention an elite S in this class as well

It is good that Antwaun Davis visited already, but not as impressive as people are making it out to be.

His coach was a speaker at the coaches clinic, so he likely just came up with him. It was likely planned before the Texas offer came. Probably didn't have to pay a dime on his visit either, just rode along with his coach. Who wouldn't do that?

In other words, I'm not going to get my hopes up about him, although I'd really like to land him.

Rochell and Sherit are elite, but I think Sherit is probably as good of a fit at the 3-4 rush OLB position, if not a better fit, than he is at DE. I still think another true DL would be a great add in this class.

Kinlaw and Butler were great adds at the CB position, but I feel we need to add at least two more, if not three DB's. I think Alexander would be more of a surprise than Hargreaves, but I don't necessarily think they would be any bigger of a surprise than any of the other CB's left; as you said, Luke lists Oklahoma as his favorite, Davis has Texas, Willis has USC, etc.. I think our best bet to make a big play at DB is to get one of the elite safeties. I would love for us to get Cravens or Redfield, but I firmly believe they are both staying West Coast (if not both at USC). Then there is Vonn Bell, who I am not sure of, but don't feel great about. Our best option, IMO, is to focus on Leon McQuay III. He is a super-talented, long DB who is looking at schools where he can get a real education (hence the reason most Florida/SEC schools are not in the mix). He is not worried about distance and I feel he is a perfect fit.

  • Bunte is no longer visiting because his mother is ill. It's good to see him doing the right thing, but in the end, I don't think it would matter because I feel Montelus, while he did name UF his leader, will fall in love with Notre Dame and commit.

Bunte was coming out for a feeling out process anyway as he has not yet been offered. He's someone the staff wanted to get a up close look at
