Tracy Howard to Miami for Academics?????????????

  • I now understand why we were never in it with Tracy Howard.

On national TV. He says multiple times. I just have a great bone with the coaches. I have a great bone with the players. I think you mean BOND son. And he chose Miami for the academics and early playing time which he couldn't get at FSU and UF. Wow, you chose Miami for academics??????????? confusedloco How are the academics as it relates to Football players??? Grad Rates? I don't buy it.

He means the lack of academics. They hold classes on the beach.

  • Miami is actually a very good school....when you go to classes.

  • Miami is a decent school. I would guess it is the highest ranked of the 3 major Florida schools.

  • Miami is a really good academic institution - top in the country in marine biology, tops in music (Gloria Estaven and Burt Bacharach gave millions), strong business school, with an almost 100% placement rate in jobs for its business majors, major internships guaranteed for any business school student who wants one in the southern Florida area and beyond.

Unfortunately, it's my son's second choice, and he knows nothing about thug-U from the late 70's and 80's. The students we interviewed when there knew next to nothing about their football player fellow students, which is sad. Their stadium is a 35 minute bus ride from campus. And yes, Seantrel Henderson is still there.

  • I always find it amazing how ND fans beef on other teams/schools academics.
I agree that ND has great academics but so do many other schools. I find that usually it is the perception of the football team and the history of the team that gives people their beleif in another schools academics.
But Miami has a great academic program. They r a private school with very high end academics.
Just like USC and so many others....Michigan, etc.
To these kids who have been recruited and have meet with counselors and professors and all that, it is a very legit thing to say and b proud of.

  • Contrary to the belief of some haters, Miami is actually a very good academic institution.

  • I don't dispute the Miami has great academics. I have several friends there in grad school. However, from a football standpoint where do their academics stand? What is their grad rate? They seem to be in trouble quite often. I just don't buy he chose miami because of academics. Especially when he says he has a bone with the players and coaches. Instead of a bond.

Its simple.. look at all the schools on his board. What one had clearly better academics than Miami? You don't believe the kid.. thats fine. But no need to take away anything from Miami's academic reputation.

  • I agree that Miami has good academics, but most football players are allowed to skate by in college. ND is one of the few great academic institutions that holds it's players accountable and makes an effort to provide them with a legitimate education. Of the other good football programs in the country (or at least teams that are suppose to be good), I can only think of Stanford as a school that has the same standards.

I agree. We tend to be ND homers.

  • believe it or not they have improved in academics.

    ND1023

  • I think the kid just gets very very very stimulated and excited by the coaches - hence he has a 'bone' with them. Maybe over time they will bond, too.

  • We need to frame the issue differently. Yes, many colleges are strong academically, Miami included. However, we are talking about the academics as they relate to football players. What are the graduation rates? It is in this regard that ND has a distinct advantage.

^^^^on spot. to say or even think ND is that much better than a host of (football) competetive schools is really shallow. you can declare/major in many excellent schools within the school, or you can opt for the minumum......just like at ND.

Run the ball. Stop the run. You win, or lose, up front.
