  • Fellas, sorry I haven't been on the board at all over the last 8 months, but I have been very busy training for deployment to Afghanistan. One of my Lieutenants is an ND grad, and so is my Batallion XO. Last night we were all whinning about the fact that we would miss the entire Irish football season and it made me think I better drop a line to the Irish crew. I leave in August and should be back in March or April. I stay in touch with Paddy on FB so he will be able to give updates. You guys cheer your lungs out in my stead and I look forwad to the 2012 season when perhaps I can make it out to a game.

  • Fred,
Thank you for your service to God and Country. I am keeping you and all the Marines in my thoughts and prayers. I'll ask my dad to watch over you from his place in heaven. He passed away in 2009. He was in active duty for 30+ years and served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam.
He retired in 1978 but was always "proud to claim the title of United States Marine!"

  • Thanks for all of the prayers. I am the Battalion Gunner (Infantry Weapons Officer MOS 0306) for 2nd BN 4th Marines. We will be in Musa Qal'ah and Now Zad in the Northern part of Helmand province. I just came back from 3 weeks on a recon of the AO and I will tell you this: it is hot, dangerous, and your Marines are doing amazing things. 3rd Bn 2nd Marines is in the AO right now, and it is "The Edge of Empire", 3/2 is working hard to protect the Afghan people from the taliban/drug lords etc, develop the Afghan army & police, and Afghan Government in the area. In the out posts the Marines occupy the setting and living conditions are mid-evil, and the Marines love it.

If you want to keep up with 2/4 (my Battalion, we have a FB page called: 2nd Battalion 4th Marines Official Page) Also, check into Socks for Heroes on FB, the page was started by Jim and Carla Hogan. Their son Donald Hogan was killed in action 26 August 2009. Donald gave his live protecting his fellow Marines. For his actions Donald has been awarded the Navy Cross, but Jim and Carla are waiting for 1st Bn 5th Marines (Donald's unit) to come back from Sangin, Afghanistan before they accept the NC on Donald's behalf. Jim and Carla are great friends, great supporters of the 5th Marine Regiment of which 2/4 is a part, and just great Americans. I love them very much and they continue to give in spite of their loss. Help if you can. Semper Fi and Tiocfaidh ár lá!!!

  • IM, the reason we get to enjoy ND football is because of people like you. Good Luck, Stay Safe, and Kick Ass.
I'll have to find out were my brother in law is serving but I know he is also a Marine and is over in Afghanistan right now, I wanna say he is in the second most dangerous region. I know it is not easy work by any stretch but I hope all the sacrifices being made over there pay off.

Good Luck, thank you for your service, and GO IRISH!!!

  • Fred, you guys are the best. Remember to tell your brothers that most of us here back home LOVE them. Whatever our politics and/or beliefs about being where our Marines are, you have earned 100% of our hearts and pride, the VERY BEST of what America is all about......

Run the ball. Stop the run. You win, or lose, up front.

  • God Bless, and stay safe.
Thank you for serving us, and your country.
And all those other great responses that I want to repeat, but won't.
