Dayton (OH) Trotwood-Madison LB Michael McCray committed to Michigan on Monday. Full story coming in a sec on @247Wolverine

The streak continues...pretty redic...I wish Ohio State would just offer some of these in-state players so they won't go to U of M.

  • Urban hasn't called any of these "commits" yet. Fret not.

  • Until Michigan:

    - starts losing
    - hires a guy NOT as lovable as Brady Hoke

They will continue to have great recruiting there. They are stacking up for an incredible future, get used to it. OSU is a school that we CAN compete with for a good class, UM seems to be really skyrocketing under Hoke.

  • Ehh well he's top 50 in the nation on Rivals and not too shabby on 247sports.

Regardless, any time U of M gets yet another 4-star (from the midwest or not)...it sucks and puts us even further into irrelevancy.

You do realize we have 11 months until NSD right? Texas does the same thing every single year and look what it has gotten them. If they fill up early then they fill up, what's the big deal? We will get ours.

  • Also everyone needs to realize that we only offered 5 of their 14 commits while really only having a legitimate shot at 4 of them (LTT, Bosch, Kugler, Charlton) with 3 being O-lineman in a year where the pool is deep. The only one that really hurts is Bosch.

It's not like they are taking all our recruits and leaving scraps.

    GoldenITF

  • Just as a polite counterpoint...I don't get how people cite Texas over the last couple years (one team...) and think that achieves the objective of making U of M's class look like nothing special. Ever heard of LSU or Alabama? They lead the way with early commits too usually and I think they've done pretty okay lately.

U of M has won the head-to-head battles with ND (recruiting this year and otherwise) and, honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they got Ty Isaac and Matuska.

We're 11 months away, sure...but do you think posting 8 wins (hopefully) this season will steal a bunch of recruits from places like U of M?

Just being realistic but I hope we definitely turn it around. Just right now we're getting worked by U of M and OSU so I think any concerned posts are legit (until Jaylon Smith commits, of course :) )

  • And ND won the head to head battles with UM from 2006 to 2011. It is only 2012 and 2013 that they have won some head to head battles and now we wave the white flag? Good lord the hyperbole about "ND going into irrelevency" is getting so old.

Did UM fans panic when ND was outrecruiting them the last 6 years? In the end it did not matter because UM beat us on the field 4 of the last 5 years. The same can happen to ND in the next 4 to 5 years. UM may outrecruit ND but we win on field. You never know. And you know what? If Brian Kelly loses to UM more than he wins then it is likely he won't be here anyway. Just enjoy the ride and knock off the hyperbole.

    ScanlonIrish

  • Ohhh noooo! How can we ever compete with UM? Please lord is there some way that we can show these recruits that Notre Dame is comparable to the mighty Wolverines? If only we had some kind of head-to-head competition with them on national television...Wouldn't that be an opportunity!

  • Okay to all the "There's 11 months left" and all the other garbage guys: We struck out big time at the end of last cycle, and are being dominated in the beginning of this one. Is the sky falling? No not really, but it doesn't bode well. I think it's easier to keep guys commited then it is to get them to commit in the first place. Make all the excuses you want, this is not good for ND, a lot of elite MW talent is getting eaten up by UM and tOSU. That sucks.

Very true, but I would like to see the ND staff get out of the gate a little quicker. They closed on Kiel and Neal last class, so we know they can have coffee!

  • Hoke is showing Kelly how you come in and quickly turn a big boy program around. None of this Cincy or SDSU BS but doing it on the big stage.

  • Agreed...the sky isn't falling but it's not a positive start for us. Also, a lot of the possible "saving" graces aren't really there either. Our schedule is brutal so, barring great fortune at the QB position, we won't have the 10 win season everyone wants to see. Likewise, U of M still plays in the Big Ten (with OSU still down) so, other than Alabama, they have a pretty easy schedule.

Yeah, we "struck out at the end of the last cycle" with a class that was pretty much consensus Top 15, and as high as 10, plus a pretty darn good transfer in Carlisle who doesn't count against that. So far, Michigan is kicking our butt. Well, guess what? They're kicking just about everybody else's butt, too. They're having a great start. Quite possibly they'll have a great year. There's a lot of room on their roster because they had some major holes left from Rodriguez's recruiting.

It's like we're down 14-0 in the first quarter, and people are heading to their cars.

  • No...it's like we're down 14-0 in the first quarter of this year's game...and Tommy Rees is QB.

I had already left after kickoff... biggrin

Yeah, maybe Michigan should give Hoke a five-year multi-million dollar extension because who better than Notre Dame fans understand the long term significance of a coach's successful first year.

  • If you think we didn't strike out at the end of last cycle, take your blinders off. We bet the house on 4 or 5 prospects and NONE of them chose ND. I am happy who we have honestly, we got a pretty darn good class, but where we needed to load up this year we didn't. CB we got a GREAT one in TS but we needed at least one more PURE CB. WR's we got some really good ones, but we didn't get that one HUGE playmaker we would have had if we kept DG. We put a lot of stock into guys like Poole, Darby, Armstead, etc....once again NONE of them chose ND.

I want to reiterate that I don't think the sky is falling and we will be fine, but I do believe that in two or three years, when this past recruiting cycle comes into their own, our holes are going to show like when CW left huge gaping holes on the DL. We need to be reloading year after year and we didn't last year.

Michigan went to a BCS bowl, they have a lot of recruiting momentum right now, but it doesn't change the fact they are dominating us in recruiting. We have an AMAZING talent in Elmer, but what happens if Matsuka AND Smith both pop for UM? Then will you guys change your tone? Probably not because there would still be so much time left right? I call BS.
